The mind is a prison,
Shackles and all,
All your ideas are kept there,
All your machinations are bound there,
Your minds eye is temporarily blindfolded,

Upon request these treasures are released,
Creations given wing,
On to page and stage,
To captivate and terrify,
To enlighten and appall,

But something has designs on these gems,

Writers block,
The plague of the author and artist,
A malady so harrowing,
So abominable,
So soul-crushing,

Now my mind is blocked,
The affliction comes for me,
It’s an unwanted guard to my prison,
Authorizing no creative release,
Me and my psyche are in solitary,

Will we ever be released?

Writersblock

Good day inmates!

Here’s hoping you’re all having a exquisitely crazy day! I’m doing quite swimmingly myself, despite recent stress. There is, however, one thing that’s been bothering me recently. I’ve been suffering from a touch of writers block you see. I know some people claim it’s a myth but I’d have to disagree, it can be quite a significant barrier. Ironically I nearly have another poem ready on the subject of writers block. Irony itself. I’ve been trying to listen to a huge variety of music these last few days in the hopes that it will dredge up some absurdity to write about. A great deal of this music I haven’t listened to since I was a teenager, it’s been a rather nostalgic trip.

It’s time for part 18 of the Harlequins writing music! Once again I will have another list of five bands that I like to listen to while I write. As I mentioned before, I’ve been listening to a veritable feast of musical artists recently. Many of which I haven’t listened to in years. Inspiration will always come from the oddest places after all. From gothic to electronic; from metal to punk, from rock to rap, I always try to keep it varied. We wouldn’t want one of my sources of inspiration to stagnate now, would we? Hehe!

Now, let us delve into the musical minds of harmonious artists the world over!

Uninvited Guest – Devils Toybox

Dorp – Rollercoaster

Gogol Bordello – Wonderlust King

Finger Eleven – Slow Chemical

Breed 77 – Zombie

So there we have it for another volume of the Harlequins writing music! I do very much hope that you have enjoying my list and that you feel inclined to check out some of these bands and also some of those in my previous writing music posts. You may be surprised what kinds of music you find!

Oh, one more thing before I go back to the padded cell. In my previous writing music post, I asked if anybody had any advice about getting a paid account on WordPress. I just thought I’d extend that request to this post as well, so I’m going to copy and paste what I said in the last post.

“There was one other thing I wanted to talk about quickly here at the end. I’ve been considering changing from a free plan on WordPress to a paid one. The opportunity to have my own web address/domain and eliminating advertisements are pleasing as it is, but I want to know about other benefits of doing this. Is it likely to increase traffic at all? Is it expensive? I was hoping anybody reading this would be able to tell me if it’s worth forking out money for the blog. I was hoping somebody who has a paid account could tell me how it’s helped or hindered them. Basically, I just want to know if it’s a good idea or not. If there are any good web-Samaritans out there, let me know in the comments. Thank you so much.”

So, as always my friends, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

I hope you’re all having a wonderfully mad day. It’s been something of a busy week, between writing and real life work. Regrettably, life is always the greatest obstacle to writing, this profession we all love. If reality is a maze, then literary art is the treasure and life is the Minotaur. I’ve been getting plenty of poems out and I aim to keep this current pace up! I’m quite happy with how my recent poems have gone so far and I like to think people seem to be liking them a lot. So that’s good! It’s nice to get pleasant comments from you lovely people. Hopefully soon I’ll also get around to continuing with my Daetrolos and Asylum Mythos writing, if anybody reading remembers those. Hehe.

It’s time for part 17 of the Harlequins writing music! Today I will have another list of five bands that I like to listen to while I write. Occasionally I dance around the room while these are playing, but keep that to yourself! I also tend to sit back and relax while I play this music, which helps enormously when I’m trying to come up with new ideas for a poem or story. As always, the music I listen to comes from a great variety of genres. I try not to limit myself to one kind of music. Inspiration comes from the most unexpected of places after all.

Now, let us delve into the musical minds of exalted artists the world over!

Blue Oyster Cult – Don’t Fear The Reaper

Poldoore – Solstice

16 Volt – Suffering You
https://www.facebook.com/Poldoore/

Metallica – Enter Sandman
https://metallica.com/

Daft Punk – Around The World
https://www.daftpunk.com/

So there we have it for another volume of the Harlequins writing music! I hope that you’ve enjoyed my choices of music in this edition. I encourage you to check them all out, even if you don’t typically enjoy certain genres. You may yet be surprised! An open mind is a creative mind.

There was one other thing I wanted to talk about quickly here at the end. Thank you so much.

I hope you all have a very crazy day inmates!

Good day inmates!

This is truly a joyous day for me! I don’t think I ever expected to be writing a post like this. Or rather, a post about this. It’s extremely good news and i feel rather proud to announce it.

WorldofHarley has finally passed 1000 followers!!

Huzzah! The big one triple zero! I could scarcely believe it. It’s possible that you already knew about this if you’re one of our Twitter followers but still, I felt it necessary to make a short post (are they ever short?) on this wonderful milestone. I never expected it to get this far at all. I know I say that quite a lot but it’s true, I simply find myself dumbfounded each day! Each and every like, follow or comment is a reason to celebrate here at the asylum.

So basically, I’d like to thank each and every one of you that check the blog out, follower or not. You’re all amazing and you simply must be mad! Thank you, thank you and thank you! We simply must try to keep the madness going, no?

So, until next time, have an extra crazy day inmates!

Good day inmates!

A quick little note before my “main event” tonight. Oh yes, I’m posting something new tonight. Something a little different. Something a little political. I finally know when I shall be regaining internet. This is grand news as you can imagine, it feels rather odd never being able to access the internet. I simply can’t wait! I’ll be able to get back to unleashing more regular writings and ramblings as I was before. I will be regaining internet again on the 23rd of September, which is next Tuesday. Glory, I say! I hope to see you all around the asylum soon!

*wink*

Until next time my kindly inmates, have a very crazy day!

Hello there inmates!

Well, I’ve been away from the asylum for a little while now. You may or may not have noticed that I haven’t posted anything in what seems like an age. Well, it certainly feels like an age to me anyway. I have missed the asylum and the blog, that’s for sure!

Well, you see, I have been moving into a new flat with Lee recently. It’s been a long time coming really and we’re both very happy about it. It feels so uplifting and grand to finally be living with Lee, it’s really quite special. It’s a great little place that is just the right size for us. We’re both working all the time as well, so we don’t get a huge amount of free time either. It’s tiring, but it’s worth it. As we have just moved into a new place, we do not currently have internet. We’re in the process of rectifying that, but it will take some time as you can imagine.

All of these things add up to the lack of blogging time. I’m only able to post this from my parents house. I don’t really want to make a habit of this, since I feel guilty about it really. However, I have managed to get some writing down, between days off and break times. I have several writings and poems ready for posting already. I’m not sure exactly when they will be posted but it shall be soon. I may use the parents laptop to post one soon though, we shall see.

So yes, I simply wanted to give my beloved inmates something of an update to what’s been going on. WorldofHarley is very much still alive and the madness shall resume in earnest presently! I hope you’ve all been very abnormal in my absence!

As always, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

Remember me? It seems like it’s been a while since I posted anything. Ok, it’s only been half a week or so, but it feels quite a bit longer. Yet again, sorry about that. I’ve been very busy with a new job you see. Oh, the joys of capitalism eh? I’m still working on a Daetrolos piece and several Asylum Mythos pieces, so watch out for those. I’ve also began devising a new poem, which I should have ready and posted by the end of the week too.

Anyway, today I thought I’d respond to an award that I was nominated for a few days ago. This award is the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award. Quite a joyous and pleasant sounding award no? I was nominated for this by the ever-laudable Sourceror, a blogger I happen to enjoy reading very much. Thank you very much Sourceror for thinking of me, as always it means a lot. Loving the Facebook page, by the way!

wonderful-readership-award2

Right, now for the award itself! It’s a relatively simple one this time, no long questions or eccentric facts about oneself. You simply have to nominate 14 other bloggers and post links to their blogs. You see, the idea of this award is to give a little thank you to those fellow bloggers who regularly view, like and comment on you blog. So yes, even if you don’t do awards, consider this a personal thank you to yourselves for being such great little inmates!

The specific rules are as follows:
1. The nominee shall display the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award logo on his/her blog.
2. The nominee shall nominate 14 bloggers s/he admires, over a period of 7 days, all at once or little by little, by linking to their blogs and informing them about it.

I think I’m going to simply nominate all of my allotted nominees all at once, because I feel I will simply forget if I try to do it bit by bit. So here goes, these are my nominees!

So there you go! Congratulations to all of my nominees, you all deserve the exposure. Thank you to all of you who happen to read this! I hope that you will continue to support my little menagerie of madness here at WorldofHarley. Thank you once again! Until next time…

Have a strikingly crazy day inmates!

bookbloggertest

Hello there inmates!

Marvelous news! Just the other day I was invited (or challenged) by the very talented Rachael C Marek at A Writer’s Discrepant Memoirs and Other Tales to undertake the “Book Blogger Test”. I’d not heard of it until this happened, but it sounds rather interesting. I simply have to answer some book-related questions. What fun! So here goes, let’s sharpen our pencils and steady our reading glasses shall we?

What are your top three book hates?
1. I dislike books that essentially use or copy Tolkien-esque creatures and lore. Fantasy authors use Tolkien elves, who fight Tolkien orcs with Tolkien-esque magic in Tolkien-esque wars in Tolkien-esque nations. I don’t think it’s necessary at all. Tolkiens world worked for him and him alone, why do authors these days not come up with their own beasts and races? Create unique creatures or nations instead of trying to emulate Tolkien. Tolkien was phenomenal, don’t get me wrong, but you should be your own writer. Not another Tolkien. You’re better than that.

2. Poorly written villains! I’m sure that this is a book hate of many, many people. I don’t like the old, almost comic-book-like style of bad guys in many stories. You know the ones, The villains who appear to have practiced their “bad guy” laugh more-so than actually working out how to be evil. I want truly sinister villains you just love to hate.

3. I’m not a fan of what I call “forced romances”. I see this in modern films more so than in books, but I feel it’s still relevant. It’s when a love interest character seems to exist solely so the protagonist can have a love interest. The main character seems to always have to fall in love. It feels forced and rarely actually adds anything to the story. Ironically, I struggle to think of an example as I write this, but I see it far too often. It is quite irritating.

Describe your perfect reading spot.
My perfect reading spot would have to be a dimly lit room, perhaps my bedroom, in complete silence. Perhaps with quiet and soft music playing, if i must. I prefer to read indoors you see.

Tell us three book confessions.
1. I actually don’t have all that many books anymore. Many of them were lost when I moved out years ago. Bit of a shame really, but I still have a decent selection. I intend to grow my collection again over time.

2. I read just as many nonfiction books, like encyclopedias or historical books, as I do fictional stories. I enjoy reading about history and geography just as much as I do reading about fictional monsters and wars in fantastic worlds. I’m something of a nerd, I suppose.

3. I never read the last Harry Potter book, or the Silmarillion, or any of the Song of Fire and Ice books, or any of the books by Terry Pratchett. I’m a terrible person.

When was the last time you cried during a book?
I’m not sure I have ever cried while reading a book. I have felt a tinge of melancholy though. This occurred while I was reading the Harry Potter books. I forget which book it was, but it was when Dobby died. Sorry if that counts as spoiling it for others. Don’t judge me!

How many books are on your bedside table?
My bedside table isn’t really big enough to have much on it. Oh yes, I’m rather cheap like that. However, there is occasionally the one book I’m reading at the time resting its pages on it. It changes periodically, of course.

What’s your favorite snack to eat while you’re reading?
I’m not really one for eating while reading but it would have to be either twiglets or chocolate digestives. As you can imagine, my books can get messy occasionally. It’s not unknown for me to have a good fizzy drink as well!

Name three books you would recommend to anyone.
1. ‘The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara’ by Terry Brooks

2. ‘Twelve’ by Jasper Kent

3. ‘The Necronomicon’ by HP Lovecraft

Show us a picture of your favorite shelf on your bookcase.
I’m going to have to leave this one for the time being. I have no camera to take photos right now. Sorry about that!

Write how much books mean to you in three words.
Words are freedom.

What is your biggest reading secret?
I sometimes have a memory lapse and end up reading the same page twice. I forget that I’ve read it already, so I just start over like nothing has happened. I only tend to notice about half way through that it seems very familiar.

Who I’m tagging:
1. The Migraine Chronicles

2. Creativity is Key

3. ohellino

4. childoftheisland

Well, there we go! That was quite refreshing to be honest, Writing about something a little bit different. Here’s hoping my answers are satisfactory. Thank you again for thinking of me with this Rachael. Be sure to check out her blog, it’s really cool! That’s all from me for now. I’ll have some more work up by the end of the week hopefully, assuming the voices don’t drag me away. Haha!

Have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello inmates!

Hope you’re all having a great day. Just a quick note for now I promise! I have internet again already! Happy day! It was sorted out a lot sooner than I anticipated, which is great news of course. I’m so glad it only took a few days, I must admit I expected to be unable to post anything for ages like last time I had a technological problem.

Thanks to that, I should have a new piece of writing up at some point tonight, it will either be a poem or a Daetrolos piece. I’ll keep you guessing as to which.

Have a very crazy day my fellow inmates!

Hello there inmates!

I hope you’re all having a great day. I’ve got a bit of bad news for you today unfortunately. For reasons out of my control, i’m going to be without internet for a few days. It’s possible it may be until next week in fact. I’m only able to write this message thanks to a very helpful friend of mine (Loooove you Lee!). I don’t seem to be very lucky recently when it comes to technology. What a pain!

IMAG0195

No play and no net make Jack a sad panda.

I may be able to post a few things, but I can hardly promise. Sorry about that! In any case, I do have a couple more poems in the works for you all. Hopefully you’ll enjoy them. Expect them reasonably soon! Thank you for your time my friends!
