The smog lifts,
Feelings of smoke dissipate,
Emotional baggage lifts,
I can breathe again,
No more choking,
The smog lifts,
The soot leaves my mind,
No more tears,
They’ve all evaporated,
This clown looks up,
I can peer through the haze,
This painted grin returns,
The future beckons,
The show must go on,
The smog lifts.

I once began to make no sense,
My mind squirmed blissfully,
Kaleidoscopic thoughts,
And nonsensical images,
Such insane joy,

Or perhaps misery,

They tried to send me to the funny farm,
Pearly gates and high walls,
They came for me,
The demons in white coats,
Doctorates of deception,

Or perhaps altruism,

They came for me,
The voices told them i’m sure,
With a straitjacket dress in hand,
Fashion for the mad,
A gown to suit my luster,

Or perhaps my folly,

So they gave me candy,
Of myriad shape and shade,
Confectionary for the brainpan,
Citalopram comfit,
Sertraline confection,

Sweets of depression,

They want me to be mundane,
A productive little cog,
Now i’m off to the funny farm,
Cackling all the way.

Crying all the way.

Hello there inmates!

As always, I hope you’re all having a suitably mad (and productive) day! Things have been rather busy here at the asylum as well. Lots of writing and lots of giggling!I’m still in the process of sorting out my writing desk and general geek area. It’s coming along swimmingly, but my laziness gets the better of me on some days! The voices often tell me I need to get off of my ass, but what do they know?!

Anyways, back to the purpose of this post. Wonderful musical offerings that help me concentrate on my scribblings. We all know how soothing or energising music can be. I try to keep it as varied as I can, since the notes and tunes coalesce and produce thoughts of true creativity. That was rather profound wasn’t it?

So, without delaying any longer, join me as we delve into the musical minds of stunning artists the world over!

So there we have it for another volume of the Harlequins writing music! What a good time I have making these posts! As always, I hope that you give all of these artists a look. They most certainly all deserve it! I Feel I should also take this chance to suggest you look at my older writing music posts as well, if you enjoy this one of course! There’s quite a menagerie of musical marvels in those. Thank you for everything my fellow inmates!

So, until next time, have a very crazy day inmates!

Literature is alchemy,
Writing is a form thaumaturgy,
The mind provides the alkahest,
The hands follow the formula,
The great fire,

The pen is my caduceus,
This desk is my still,
The page a crucible,
The ink is my aqua vitae,
The words are my magnesia,

I reduce the words to flux,
Tear up their humours,
Coagulate the phrases,
Acids and alkalis,
Feelings and thoughts,

Boil down the context,
Mercury gold and silver,
Nouns verbs and adjectives,
Distill the words,
To create a poetic potion,

This great work,
It could be my lapis philosophorum,
My philosophers stone.

Through this glass,
Is it a window?
I see you,

Your countenance is clear as day,
Perhaps you see me too,
Trying to signal you,

Something keeps us apart,
A vacuum of memories,
And past actions,

This crystalline field between us,
A killing ground of intentions,
A reflective barrier,

Its surface is chilling to the touch,
It’s made up of our pasts,
Times we had gone by,

And fear of shattering it,
Terror of reigniting the flame,
And the pain,

We dare not fracture it,
So we longingly glance,
Across this glass mile.

Hello there inmates!

So, it’s been yet another long while since I made a post like this. Once in 2014 and once in 2017. Oh my word!

But I felt that with a whole “new year, new me” mentality, I would display some of my older works. I realise it can be a slight pain to explore the archives here at the asylum. So I felt I could display some of my favourites from my past poetry and dark fiction. I believe I’ve said it before but I do fear it’s somewhat self-indulgent, so apologies for that!

Poetry

The Master Thief – A slightly satirical look at capitalism.
The Stranger – A silly little poem about wandering at night.
I’m Not Atlas – A poem about not feeling strong enough.
Cannibal Heart – A dark poem about a cannibal, or perhaps a lover.
Video Games – Simply applying video games and puns to life.
A bloody legacy – Part 1 of a “trilogy” of sorts.
Festival Of Blood – Part 2.
Cerberus – Part 3.
The Painted Man – A story of a man shaped by society.

Fiction

Bob – The monster hunter Ryan Sargent talks about his ‘partner’.
Seeing through the lies – Ryan Sargent talks about a past experience.
The Asylum Mythos: The Hag-Man – A bizarre inmate speaks.
The Asylum Mythos: The Pint-Sized Cult – The Hag-Man tells a horrific story.

So there we go! Quite a variety there eh? I hope some of you find something you like among all of that mess. Every piece of writing I create is important to me, so I’d appreciate it immensely if you would let me know what you think.

I am currently hard at work on some new poems and scribblings. In fact, I do expect to have one done within the next day or so. Also, I’m attempting to begin a new project soon, related to serial killers and criminology, combined with supernatural elements. That was actually why I included the Ryan Sargent stories. It’s all related you know! Thank you all for your time my darling fellow inmates!

Have a very crazy day!

Good day inmates!

Hope you’re all having a suitably kooky and enjoyable day today! It’s been a while since we’ve been here, hasn’t it? It’s been far too long since I made one of these posts (and frankly, too long since I was active here at the asylum!). It’s a comeback special of the Harlequins writing music, would you believe?! Or at least that’s how I see it.

So what is going to make this writing post different? If i’m honest, not a great deal. It’s just a big deal personally cause i’ve not been active in so long. But i’ll tell you what. The voices in my head said I could have six songs/bands for a change from the usual five. Isn’t that kind of them?

So, without further adieu, join me as we delve into the musical minds of innovative artists the world over!

Ghostemane – Nihil

Forlorn Hope – Rifles

Eric Clapton – Cocaine

Santana – Black Magic Woman

Babymetal – PA PA YA!

So there we have it for yet another volume of the Harlequins writing music! That was quite a motley selection, wasn’t it? I alway enjoy doing these posts, and i’ve missed it in all honesty. As always, I hope you give all of these artists a gander. They’re all rather exquisite. Also, I decided to include a rather diverse set this time, so hopefully there’s something for everyone eh?

So, until next time, have a very crazy day inmates!

A friend once told me,
I may be eccentric,
A conflux of wasted potential,
A lunatic,
I’ll never get far this way,

I beg to differ,
I simply walk a wildly different path,
While your path holds domestic bliss and career goals,
Mine holds glamorous noise and dancing clowns,
A cane in my hand and a top hat atop,

You live your grey life,
Chastise me if you will,
I’ll still be jaunting,
I’ll still be grinning,
The crisp earth will welcome us both all the same.

Hello there fellow inmates!

You don’t need to adjust your monitors, your eyes are not deceiving you! It is, in truth, an actual new post from your friendly resident Harlequin. The asylum is not yet dead! I’ve been away from the blogosphere for some time. The reasons for this are myriad, i’m afraid. I’ve neglected my writing, my artwork, the lot. It’s a real shame, if i’m honest.

I’m not going to go into any details about what’s been going. Suffice to say, i’ve not been very well. I’ve been struggling with mental illness, and i feel that is all that needs to be said. We all have endured something similar or know someone who has. I’ve finally started to dig myself out of that hole and getting back to what makes me; me. It’s been a fairly long road, and there is much distance still to be covered. But frankly, i needed something to focus on. The asylum here at WorldofHarley was always supposed to be an escape, a sanctum. A place where i can simply be myself.

After some pushing from friends, it seemed logical to return to that sanctum. WorldofHarley is the best thing for me right now. Something to focus on. To try and return to some kind of routine. Self-therapy, if you like. So here we are!

This is something of an update. The Harlequin and the asylum are back. If anyone remembers me, then thank you so much for your patience. Haha! I’m going to try and be as regular as possible. I’m not quite sure what more to say other than…

Have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

Hope your Friday the 13th has been suitably mad. I hope you haven’t been agitating any poor innocent masked men. Haha!

It’s not really a secret that I’m a geek. I always have been and I always will be. I like watching superhero movies. I adore video games of many and varied genres. My collection of games is a bit absurd actually. I like quite a few anime though I feel slightly sheltered on that front. I occasionally buy figures and posters just because I can. I endlessly imagine characters from certain animes clashing and I constantly envision conversations between video game characters. Iron Man, Cloud Strife, Sonic, Zidane Tribal and Hellboy, these are my chums! Among others, of course. Nerdiness runs in these veins, I promise you. I actually intend to make a blog post about the random trinkets and loot that I currently own. I’ll get on that eventually.

This particular post, however, is about a specific geeky item. Sort of. You see, I recently subscribed to a website that sends crates of geeky goodies once a month. Along the same lines as Loot Crate. This website is called Super Loot (link enclosed for anyone who is interested). They’re a UK-based company that has a few different options for crates. From a general “mystery box” to a comic box. I opted for the mystery geek box, just because it intrigued me really. My box arrived this week and I fancied the idea of sharing the few things that I got in it. Partly showing off my new stuff, partly spreading the word about these guys I suppose.

So, here goes…

First off, we have a humble Daredevil Pen.

Followed by an Incredible Hulk Plush.

Then a Vision bobblehead!

Penultimately, a Black Panther Pop! figure.

And last but not least, a Westworld t-shirt.

So, there you have it! Some pretty neat stuff eh? Worked out cheaper than if I had bought them individually too! It pays to be frugal, does it not? Thanks very much to the guys over at Super Loot for the awesome stuff. I hope that some of you fellow inmates go and have a look at their site. I think they’re doing a good job. Can’t wait until next month now, it can’t come soon enough! Thank you if you’ve managed to get through this post of sheer self-indulgence, but it helps to break up the monotony, no?

Hope you all have a very crazy day inmates!
