Good day inmates!

Happy new year! I know it was a few days ago, but that was for everyone I hadn’t got the chance to wish well. I hope you all had some grand celebrations. I think you all deserve it after the last couple years eh? Did many of you have to nurse a monster hangover afterwards? I’m genuinely curious. I had a bit of a quiet one myself. Not due to lack of invitations, but rather a distinct lack of energy. As it happens, it was also my birthday on the 2nd as well. Happy birthday to me and all that. Another year closer to the grave eh? Haha!

So, it’s time for the first edition of the Harlequins writing music of 2022! I wish I could claim I’m going to do something special, but alas, not this time my friends. It’s going to be a pretty standard showing. I hope that isn’t the negative it sounds in my head. Did anybody see the clue earlier today? I quite liked that one as I’m rather fond of that kind of artwork.

Well, now for the “big” reveal! Todays musical theme is the macabre! I don’t know if you knew this, but the generally grisly, morbid and darkest things have informed much of my creativity for years. Poetry about the undead, monsters, death and yes, those darn serial killers. Sure, much of my work is political, philosophical, satirical or just generally wacky in nature but I find it hard to conceal my interest in the macabre. It’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but the darker aspects of the world and human experience are not to simply be shirked. They are as real and unavoidable as the reaper itself. Art is not always aesthetically pleasing. I watch a lot of horror movies and shows alright? It’s not my fault. So, want to hear some music inspired by the darker aspects of the mind? I knew you would!

So, join me as we delve into the musical minds of ghastly artists the world over!

Gothminister – The Sun

Brothers Osborne – Skeletons

Ghostemane – Bonesaw

Rammstein – Stirb Nicht Vor Mir
https://www.rammstein.de/en/

Ghostfire – Vaudevillain

And there we have it once again! Some interesting artists there no? I actually tried to avoid the obvious macabre choice of just loads of gothic bands. That would have been a little too easy I feel. Cradle of Filth, Tiamat or Behemoth wouldn’t be bad choices if you’re into those kinds of bands. Also the Tiger Lillies and Creature Feature! I hope you find something that you enjoy here anyway. Check them all out, they all deserve the attention you know!

Speaking of attention, mind if I have some? I have social media sites you know! The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and a page on Twitter as well. Please consider checking out those pages for random stuff! Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page too! Thanks for everything!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

How has your week been so far? Totally good I am hoping! My week has been sufficient I suppose, uneventful since monday honestly. I suppose I shouldn’t complain really. I’d rather uneventful than negative eh? Apologies for the later posting today, I’ve been getting a bit lazy honestly. I’ve been enjoying my writing this previous week or so, and I hope that you guys have been enjoying my work. I’ve felt like I have created some of my better works recently and maybe my best ever during this year. That’s not to say they’re good, by the way, merely that I’ve felt they were better than my average.

So, with that grumbling out of the way, let’s talk about music eh? The Harlequins writing music to be precise! Music is always the best way to improve ones mood. Did anybody see the clue I posted earlier today? I felt like it was less obvious, as far as music goes. Did anybody guess it? Well, let me tell you! The musical theme for todays atrocity is…

Dark magic!

Yes, that’s right! Witches, sorcerers and warlocks oh my! It may sound kind of crazy as a theme for music, but hear me out. Magic and hell and demonology have been subjects for many musical artists over the years. From death metal bands to orchestras. It is a theme we can all sort of understand. Imagery of monsters and witchcraft are pretty well known globally, albeit in different forms. The feelings of dread surrounding death and the passage to hell are often incorporated into music in low drumming and ominous tones. At the other end of the spectrum, some pretty chilled music can be used in represent the more natural and pagan forms of witchcraft, ethereal and whimsical in design to be sure. I’m finding it hard to actually describe music that includes themes of the occult or similar esoteric ideas, I can imagine it in my head (mostly from listening to particular artists) but it’s so hard to put into words that seem coherent. I think it may be easier to just listen to some eh? Yes? I think that would help. Let’s do that.

So, join me as we delve into the musical minds of sorcerous artists the world over!

Munro – Demonic Headcase

Ghostmane – John Dee

Emilie Autumn – Chambermaid
https://www.emilieautumn.com/

Rob Zombie – American Witch
https://robzombie.com/

Peter Gundry – Goetia

And there we have it! How was that? Did you feel the arcane eminence coming from these songs? Did they cast a spell upon you? Feeling a little bit…. possessed? A little bit of a variety there eh? I could have included quite a few other songs in this field as well, but I think I wanted to get the theme across in the most poignant ways possible. Not to mention it’s getting a bit. I hope you check out all of these artists as I feel that they deserve the exposure. Don’t worry, they won’t cast any magic on you, I promise!

So, let’s have some totally non-magical social media stuff. The asylum has a page over on the book of faces, an account on an instant-friend gram and also an account over on Tweety bird. What? You know what sites I’m talking about. Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the…. Ko-Fi page. Couldn’t think of anything funny, oh and thank you for everything!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

How are you all? Having a fun week? My week has been reasonably busy, both in writing and “IRL” stuff. I’m not a great fan of adulting! Is anyone? Responsibility can be such a drag can’t it? Anywho, it’s been a productive one. I’ve been really happy with what I’ve produced this week. I realise a few of my poems have been reasonably heavy in content, particularly on the subject of depression and self-hate. I appreciate the few comments of support and concern I received, but I assure you I’m doing alright. Writing about it is really the best way to deal with it. Is anybody else like that?

So, it’s a wednesday which means it’s time for some writing music! Again, there is a theme for todays post. I dropped a clue for it on the social media and I wonder if anybody had any theories!

The theme for todays edition of the Harlequins writing music is horror! Oh yes, probably among my favourite genres of film and reading material. From the shadow of Nosferatu to the dream demon Freddy Krueger! The racing pulse brought on by a tense killer chase or the lingering dread of a unnatural haunting. Many of these things have greatly influenced my writing and even inspiring specific poems (such as Slasher and Horror Icons). It influences a great many music artists as well. Even the most horrific imagery has been used in many artists work, whether it be in the musical construction itself or the use of graphic imagery in music videos or the bands image. I love monsters and true crime, two subjects that many music artists have latched on to in their musical repertoire. So, do you want to hear some? As you can imagine, some of these choices may contain explicit material, for those worried about such things.

Now, join me as we delve into the musical minds of frightful artists the world over!

SKYND – Gary Heidnik

Mushroomhead – We Are The Truth

Creature Feature – Buried Alive
http://www.creaturefeaturemusic.com/

Crankdat – Horror Hour
https://www.facebook.com/crankdat/

Ghostemane – Hydrochloride
https://www.ghostemane.com/

And there we have it!

Spooked out enough? I was spoiled for choice if I’m honest; I had ideas such as creepy lullabies, some other electronica, countless metal bands and every painted freak out there. No offence to painted freaks of course, I am one! I just intended to choose a good variance in the genres and artists, because above all, the music is the primary reason. I think these artists show different kinds of horror. Monsters, mad killers and ghosts, oh my! I hope you enjoy my choices and aren’t over-scared by them!

So, how about some freaky social media spiel! The asylum has a presence on Facebook, an account on Instagram and a page on Twitter. Please think about following and liking me on those, it really helps me out! Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the madhouse, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page! Thanks for everything!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Good day inmates!

I hope you’re all having a wonderful today my friends and I hope you’re all keeping safe as well. Its been an interesting week here at thr asylum. I’ve had to isolate due to somebody else testing positive for the grand old plague. Quite an inconvenience, but at leaat I’m always in the warm. I do like the warm. Haha!

So, its time for another edition of the Harlequins writing music today. However, as I mentioned last week, I wanted to focus on a single musical artist instead of multiple. To shine the eerie spotlight on an artist whom I particularly like to listen to. Especially if I find the artist inspiring or otherwise unique. For this instance, I have decided to share Ghostemane with you all.

Now, Ghostemane is a curious American mix of a rapper and an industrial metal artist. I was introduced to his music by a close friend early in 2019 and my interest in his work has only increased. It’s strange because I am not typically too big on hip-hop or rap, though I find his music quite different. Indeed its rappy, but it has previous intense gothic and industrial overtones with subjects like serial killers, demons, mysticism and astrology. Many of his songs are quite explicit and even violent, as you’ll soon witness. Another aspect of his music I enjoy is his vocal range. He can go from singing, to screaming, back to screaming before rapping at lightspeed. I actually believed it2 was several people originally, but all the “voices” are his. On a side note, I always like the gothic aesthetic that he toys with anyways.

But enough chatter, want to hear some of it? I know I do! Without further ado, join me as we delve into the darkly musical mind of Ghostemane!

Ghostemane – Nihil

Ghostemane – Hydrochloride

Ghostemane – Hades

Ghostemane – Lazaretto

Ghostemane – Venom

Ghostemane – Gatteka

And there we have it for some Ghostemane music to whet your appetite (or scare you off!)

So, as you can tell, his music is definitely not for everybody. There are a great many expletives and disturbing imagery. But art is not always sunshine and rainbows. Hell, my own work should give that away! So I’d suggest giving him a chance, even if you don’t like one song you may enjoy another as they are quite varied. As usual, I’ll include a link to his website here.

So, that’s it for another week. I hope you’ve enjoyed this look into a side of music not many seem to understand. It’ll be a normal writing music poat next week, honest! So, the asylum has its own social media prescence too. I have a Facebook page, an account over on Instagram and also a page on Twitter. As always, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over at the Ko-fi page! Cheers guys!

Until next time, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

I hope you’re all having a wonderfully mad day today. I hope you’re also enjoying the dwindling days of October as well. It’s hard to believe November is so close already. But you know what that means! Halloween is near as well! My favourite day of the year. I’d happily give up Christmas for a second Halloween and no that is not a joke. Haha! As you may be able to tell, I’m feeling much better from my little slump last week. I’m still not quite sure what caused that but I’m glad its been given its marchin orders.

So things here at the asylum have been performing much the same as usual. Traffic seems to be down a bit at the moment which is a pity but I suppose things just go like that sometimes. As long as I’m not irritating folks with my work recently or something. I’d feel very bad in that situation.

So, with that aside, it’s time for this weeks edition of the Harlequins writing music! As halloween is fast approaching I figured I would create a “spooky” themed list today. I’m going to include six (yes that’s right, six!) of the freakiest and scariest artists that I could think of. We need some unsettling imagery in this place! Some of these are likely to be artists that I’ve shared before. Lets get some interesting music videos going eh?

Join me this Halloween eve week as we delve into the musical minds of scary artists the world over!

Mushroomhead – Graveyard Du Jour

God Module – Spooky

Mr. Strange – Last Ride/Road To Ruin

Ghostemane – Lazaretto
https://www.ghostemane.com

Marilyn Manson – The Dope Show
https://marilynmanson.com

Broken Peach – Bad & Ghostbusters
https://m.facebook.com/thebrokenpeach/

So there we have it for another drop of the Harlequins writing music!

That last one was sort of a joke. A very good song, but hardly threatening. I’m a big fan of all of these artists and I think they all deserve just all of the love. Give a clown a hand would you? Check them all out, you’ll not be disappointed. Everyone needs a bit of fear in their lives, no? Especially at Halloween!

So, heres the usual social media spiel! I have a Facebook page for the asylum, an Instagram page and a Twitter account. I share random photos from my mad life and also include clues for my poems a few hours ahead of their release. Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over at the Ko-fi page. Cheers and I doff my hat to you!

Until next week, have a great Halloween inmates!

Good day inmates!

Hope you’re all having a suitably kooky and enjoyable day today! It’s been a while since we’ve been here, hasn’t it? It’s been far too long since I made one of these posts (and frankly, too long since I was active here at the asylum!). It’s a comeback special of the Harlequins writing music, would you believe?! Or at least that’s how I see it.

So what is going to make this writing post different? If i’m honest, not a great deal. It’s just a big deal personally cause i’ve not been active in so long. But i’ll tell you what. The voices in my head said I could have six songs/bands for a change from the usual five. Isn’t that kind of them?

So, without further adieu, join me as we delve into the musical minds of innovative artists the world over!

Ghostemane – Nihil

Forlorn Hope – Rifles

Santana – Black Magic Woman

Babymetal – PA PA YA!

So there we have it for yet another volume of the Harlequins writing music! That was quite a motley selection, wasn’t it? I alway enjoy doing these posts, and i’ve missed it in all honesty. As always, I hope you give all of these artists a gander. They’re all rather exquisite. Also, I decided to include a rather diverse set this time, so hopefully there’s something for everyone eh?

So, until next time, have a very crazy day inmates!
