Salutations inmates!

How goes the week? Keeping it crazy I hope. Of course you are, you silly little minxes! I’ve felt somewhat off myself. Not exactly in the negative sense, but I’ve simply been feeling all over the place. Struggling to focus and the like. I admit I’ve had a lot on my mind, but this feels a little more intense than I’m used to. It may be a silly question without specific contexts, but would anybody have any theories? In more substantive conversations, I’ve been rather happy with my recent poems. I do, however, feel I’ve been missing something a bit in the last few months. I haven’t created any of my true crime poems in far too long! Anybody else think I ought to fix that? Any suggestions?

So, you know what we’re here for today right? Come on! Ok, I’ll tell you. Do you know the muffin man? -No wait, that’s not right. Oh yes. It’s the Harlequins writing music today isn’t it? Yes, I’m sure. Did anybody see the clue earlier on today? It wasn’t as vague as some previous ones have been. Well, hopefully not anyway.

The theme for our writing music this week is pianos and keyboards! That most extravagant of musical instruments that often act almost like centrepieces on a stage. Similar to drumkits I suppose. It’s an instrument that I really wish I could play but I fear I like the manual dexterity or focus to get it done. Instead I listen to the masters and mistresses. From the most famous composers to “amateurs” on Youtube. It’s a rather skilful practice as is any instrument, but I just feel a certain culture emanating from it. The feelings that a well-played piano can invoke are myriad. It can be the most sombre heart-breaking dirge or an upbeat dancey tune like ‘The Entertainer’. It can be as complex or simplistic as the player allows, with a range that I feel dwarfs many other musical instruments, perhaps even guitars. I’m going to show you all five of my favourite piano pieces from around the interwebs and I hope that y’all enjoy them as much as I do.

So please, join me as we delve into the musical minds of pianists the world over!

And there we have it! I don’t think I could really have much to say about these artists other than wow! I really hope you check out all of these artists if you haven’t already listened to them. Yes, even the videogame ones. They all deserve it for certain. There were many more that I could have chosen for this list, but perhaps I ought to leave that for a potential future continuation eh?

So, on to the usual social media nonsense eh? It’s got to be done you know! The asylum has some social media sites that would really like to receive your affection. Or maybe just a like/follow will do. It would mean a great deal to me! The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and lastly a page over on Twitter as well! Links will be included here as always! Also, if you really enjoy what I do here at my humble asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page as well! Thanks for everything!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Are we not living a virtual reality?
Are we living in binary?
Chrome-filled goggles over our eyes,
Flashing every shade of ruby,
Screens of ones and zeroes,
Winners and losers,

It’s a life within a life,
Unreal,
Fake,
As if nature were moved to the recycle bin,
It’s all apps and numbers on screens,
And media that is less than social,

This VR world,
It’s a misery machine,
It’s not living,
And when it gets too much,
When our eyes are straining,
Can we even take the headset off?

Hello once again inmates!

Bloody hell, part 177 of these posts already eh? And the beginning of a new month as well. Why, it feels like just yesterday I was inflicting my musical tastes and interests upon you poor people. In seriousness though, I appreciate you all humouring me over the years. I’m sorry to say the melancholy has returned a bit this week. I think there are numerous reasons for that at this point. I can’t say I’m the best at dealing with change. I’ve been feeling strangely isolated, which is absurd since I have friends and family everywhere around me. I just feel like I’m withdrawing into myself without even necessarily meaning to. It’s a hard mindset to describe. I’m unsure if the poems this week have shown any of that.

Well, let’s not worry and get on to the subject of todays post. I’ve chosen a very light-hearted and creative theme for this week, a bit of a boost for us all eh? Did anybody see the clue earlier on today? I admit it’s a little niche if you didn’t recognise the individual in the photo but hopefully I’ll get you up to speed today eh?

The musical theme for todays writing music post is… 10 Second Songs! Ok, I can hear you screeching already: “What the hell is that, you peculiarly short clown?”. You didn’t need to bring my height into this, but I’m going to explain. 10 Second songs is a well-known YouTube channel run by an undeniably talented bloke called Anthony Vincent from the USA. I’m not particularly well-versed in how he came to create the channel or his earlier works but he is one of the best “Cover” channels that I know of. It’s actually unfair to say covers, as Vincent has a method all of his. He will cover a song beginning in the creators own style and at various points he will switch to emulate a completely different artist while keeping to the lyrics. No genre is off the cards! So, he can go from a dour alternative style ala Linkin Park, to a country singer, a popstar or a rapper. He even puts joke bits in like random segments of Bollywood, bluegrass or dog sounds. He can often fit from 20-40 styles in one song. It’s really something to witness actually. I think a demonstration would help more than my mumbling wouldn’t it? Ok, let’s do it!

Please join me as we delve into the musical minds of 10 Second Songs!

10 Second Songs – In The End

10 Second Songs – Talk Dirty

10 Second Songs – Rap God

10 Second Songs – Dark Horse

10 Second Songs – Take On Me

And there we have it! What do you think eh? Those are among my personal favourites of Mr. Vincent’s videos, but certainly not all of them. I wasn’t going to regale you with every single one as that would mean you may not go and check out his channel. I absolutely want you to go and do that by the way. Show Mr. Vincent the love eh? After listening to his work, I’m sure you’ll agree that he deserves it! I’ll include a link to his channel just below here.

Hello there inmates!

How are you all doing this week? Very well I hope. With any luck, you’re having a more interesting week than me. It’s been something of a slow week here at the asylum. Not bad by any means, just uneventful. Even the weather has been surprisingly neutral, without anything particularly standout. It’s definitely beginning to feel closer to spring now though. I suppose I should be glad in a way, uneventful is better than negative eh? Speaking of which, after my little tangent last week about grief a few of you left some insightful words in the comments. You didn’t have to do that. I really appreciate it though and it was exactly what I think I needed. You’re all very kind.

Before I become any more sentimental and the voices start whining, let’s get on with the point of todays post eh? It’s the Harlequins writing music today don’t you know?! Did anybody see the clue for todays musical theme? It was so adorable, I just had to pick it. Honestly, it was just precious! Go and have a look maybe? Hehe!

Well, the musical theme for today is quite a cool one honestly. I’m amazed I hadn’t thought of it before. Unless I did and forget… Bleh, I have no idea. Anyways, the musical theme for this week is animals! The clue was a photo of a Quokka, an adorable little critters that I believe are from Australia. You won’t find any songs about those today (that would be niche, even for me) but there are many artists who have written about animals or have used animals as some kind of metaphor. As with the natural world, the wildlife living within it has captivated humanity forever I would imagine. They’re our friends, our food and even our colleagues. Some are so much like people that they are treated as such. Some are feared about all else whereas some are angels in fur. I don’t think I need to go into too much detail, you all know about animals I’m sure. For the record, I’m a big fan of doggies, chameleons and owls. Shall I get to the music? Ok, I’ll get to the music.

Please, join me as we delve into the musical minds of wild artists the world over!

And there we have it! I want to go and cuddle with the dogs we have at the asylum now! Bit impractical as they’re asleep right about now but still. I hope you enjoy the musical choices I’ve presented this week and check out all of these artists out. You won’t regret it I’m certain. I’m sure you’ve heard of one or two of these, but still. Give them some love eh?

Speaking of love, mind allowing me some too? Perhaps not love, but some minor attention at least? The asylum really needs the help my friends. I really want to get my writings to more people and I can’t do it without you beautiful peeps. The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and lastly a page over on Twitter as well. Please think about giving me over a like and follow over on those. Also, maybe tell your friends as well? That’d be lovely. Last but not least, if you really enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on my Ko-Fi page as well! Thanks for everything!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Good day inmates!

Even at my age, I’m not sure I understand grief. I know that it manifests differently for different people but I’m not sure I get my reaction to it. Traditionally I would have expected to be moping and crying. Not that I’m much of a weeper anyways, but that’s what you picture when somebody says they’re in grieving. Yet I just find myself feeling blank. Empty. Like I’m not feeling anything. I feel loss, but little else. I’m unsure how to feel about the whole thing. Is that normal? I’m genuinely asking cause I can’t work it out. Anyways, sorry about that tangent, but I felt you lovely folks out there may have an answer. How are you all anyways? Doing great I hope!

Speaking of great, did anybody see my clue for todays musical theme? It wasn’t great really, I’m being facetious. It wasn’t exactly an elusive one anyways. Anybody who saw it could have probably guessed the music we’re going to be enjoying today.

So, let’s get to it eh? The musical theme for this weeks Harlequins writing music is Italy! Yes indeed, one of the great pillars of Europe and home of the once-great Roman Empire. It’s among the most supposedly romantic places in the world (Or at least Rome is), second only to the likes of Paris. It’s a cultural icon, as most will attest, and a centre for industries such as fashion and the automotive sector. Italians can be a funny lot, but they’re very community-focussed and nobody knows style like an Italian. Just look at a Lamborghini. I’m not a car person, but still. I think that translates into some of their music as well. Italy is known for some of the best Opera singers in history, some underrated alternative bands and if my cursory research is evenly remotely correct, a pretty strong punk presence as well. It’s hard to boil a nation down to just music though. You’ll find all genres in practically all countries if you look hard enough so I won’t focus on that too much. So, rather than speak from a clueless Anglo-centric view any longer, let’s get to the songs eh?

And there we have it for another week! I strangely have a strong desire for pasta and pizza all of a sudden. Oh, you thought I’d forgotten about the wonders of Italian food above? Hell no! I can’t live without pizza in my life. Who’s with me? Anyway, before I start drooling, I hope that you all enjoy the musical choices for this week and be sure to check them all out. There’s some really cool ones in Italy right now and they deserve the attention.

Speaking of attention, mind allowing me a bit? I say it every week I know! The asylum has social media sites that desire to hear from you all. Hello there inmates!

How are you all doing my friends? Is it weird to call my readers my friends? It doesn’t feel weird, but I’ve never been very good at telling if something is strange to other people. I do consider you all friends and allies regardless. So sue me if it’s strange. Hehe! Anyways, it’s not been a very good week here I’m afraid. This is sort of a continuation of the affairs I alluded to in my post last week. I don’t want to put overly personal business out here at the asylum, but suffice to say it’s been a week of loss. I’ve tried not to let it “interfere” with my posting schedule, such as it is, and I hope that has been clear. Thank you for the patience regardless.

So, moving on swiftly, did anybody see the clue for todays writing music? It was a really good one, honest! I posted it over on my usual social media sites. I’ll put links to those sites towards the end of todays post, but you can always find them on the ‘Contact Me’ page above! Go oooooon!

So, the theme for the Harlequins writing music post this week is…. the colour red! Yep, one of those ever present primary colours. I’ve previously themed posts around the colours. Purple and blue come to mind in recent history. Was there green? I forget. As with other colours, red represents a myriad of things. It represents anger, hate and passion. Romantic pursuits and amorous exchanges. It can evoke the thought of fire and creativity. It could represent a sports team that you follow (or dislike). It’s a rather opaque term that can mean so many things to so many people. Is red your favourite colour? Genuine question because I don’t know many who love it. You know what we all like though? Music. Yep, so that’s get on to that eh?

And there we have it! I’m feeling a little rosy in the cheeks, I don’t know about you! That may be the coughing fit I just had though. I hope that you all enjoy the musical choices this week, I had some fun finding them to be sure. Be sure to check out and support the artists out there. The world is not particularly kind to artists of any kind really.

Speaking of which, do you guys mind checking me out and supporting me over on my social media too? I mentioned my sites earlier on and as promised I will supply you all with links here in just a tick. Good day inmates!

How are you all doing this week? Hope you’re all keeping warm out there (or cool for those in other climates). It’s still a bit chilly here right now, but it’s remained dry for the moment. I can deal with that I suppose. In fact it’s been sunny for the most part. It’s been a rather rocky week thus far in other areas though. I’m not going to go in to any details of course, but there’s been some family stuff going on in the last couple weeks and it sort of progressed this week. Yes, vague I know. But a certain degree of separation of personal life and online life is wise when it comes to these things don’t you think? I know y’all get where I’m coming from.

Anyways, we are here for music aren’t we? If not, you may be a touch lost my friend. The poems are on the other days of the week you know! Wednesdays are for writing music! Did anybody see the clue for todays musical theme? I’m going to keep asking you know. It was right there on the social media, you naughty munchkins!

Let’s get straight to it as I was really looking forward to todays theme. The theme for this weeks writing music is night time! As many of you may know from many previous poems, I’m a big fan of night and in particular the sight of the moon. Sunsets and sunrises have their appeal to be sure, but to me, sitting under a starry sky with the odd cloud lit up under a full moon is so much more magical. If I ever need to go out and think, I prefer to take a short (or sometimes not) ride around the island on a clear night. It really is quite something special. I think music artists get that too. There are so many ways to express the visual beauty and esoteric feelings that the darker hours profess. Slow and numbing electronic beats, songs from a sad soul alone in the dark, music about the realm of dreams or maybe songs expressing fear and horror with how the night is. It’s one of those broad subjects that means a different thing to every different person. The best subject for an artist. Musical and otherwise. Let’s see what I found for this theme eh?

Please join me as we delve into the minds of nocturnal artists the world over!

Kikuo – Song of the Night

Phaelah – In The Twilight

And there we have it for another week! If it wasn’t a bit chilly tonight, this would almost make me want to go out and wander about in the dark. On second thought, that sounds a bit on the creepy side. That’s definitely not what I meant. Haha! I hope that you all enjoy the musical choices for this week. I tried to get a decent variety of musical styles while still retaining the overall theme. I hope that y’all decide to check out these artists from this week, they all deserve the attention. Madness knows it’s a rough world in the music industry after all.

Incoming awkward segue! You know what else is a rough world? Getting noticed on the interwebs! Not in celebrity terms of course, but just reaching new readers is all. That’s what social media is meant to be for eh? So, I’m going to share my social media sites here for anybody who hasn’t followed/liked yet. No pressure of course, just an open offer. The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and lastly a page over on Twitter as well! Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page as well! Thanks for everything my friends!

Until next week, have a very crazy day my dear inmates!

Hello there inmates!

Does this winter never end? I know that’s a stupid question, but I simply can’t wait for the weather to warm up. I’m fed up with wearing several layers everyday. Don’t mind me, I’m just complaining to the laptop really. I hope that all of you are surviving out there, especially those of you affected by snow. We’re fairly lucky with that on the island, it’s very rare for snow to bother us here. You better keep safe out there or I’ll be most upset.

So, on to less droll conversations. Who likes music? Well, that’s what we’re all here for today! If you don’t really like music, I’m not sure why you’re here. Surely not for me rambling nonsense. So, did anybody see the clue for todays theme? I certainly hope so! I spend at least 5 minutes searching for those you know!

So, let’s get right down to it eh? Todays musical theme is the weather! Yep! Now I know previously I have covered the cold and winter. I’ve covered summer and the heat. But what about the weather in a more general sense? What about the wind? The rain? What about simple calm blue skies? Those still have merit don’t they? Who doesn’t like not having to worry about the weather on a given day eh? Well, there’s plenty of music inspired by all kinds of weather. It doesn’t always have to be the extremes after all. The wiles of the natural world are something that has inspired souls since the beginning of time. I imagine people have created music about it even back in the cave and fire times! Skulls for drum sets anybody? So, I’m sure I don’t need to explain how all kinds of natural climates could inflame an artist. Let’s just get to it!

So please, join me as we delve into the musical minds of elemental artists the world over!

https://redhotchilipeppers.com/

Pharell Williams – Gust of Wind
https://pharrellwilliams.com/

The Weather Girls – It’s Raining Men
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Weather_Girls

And there we have it! I feel like I just watched a very jazzy weather forecast. If only they were always musical in nature on the tv eh? Mind you, that may be a bit more first thing in the morning. I don’t think anybody needs somebody singing about the virtues of north westerlies at 7am. Alas, I hope that you enjoy the choices I’ve shared today and that you check out the artists as ever. They always deserve it. Some well-known names there for sure!

Speaking of not-very-well-known names, have you heard of my social media sites? It would mean a great deal to me if any of you deigned to like/follow me over on those pages as well. I’ll include links here as always. The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and lastly (and least) a page over on Twitter as well. If you really enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please also consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page as well! Thanks for everything my friends!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

Brrr! It’s mighty chilly here on the island this week you know! No snow as of yet thankfully, but plenty of frost and ice. It’s made using the bike something of an occupational hazard so I’ve been trying to go out as little as possible. How is it where you guys are? Maybe some of you are in more tropical climes? I hope you’re all managing to keep warm wheresoever you are. Unless you’re one of those mental cases that enjoy being out in the cold, in which case I hope you enjoy that instead.

So, there was a slight error for the clue for todays musical theme. It appears that the clue was only posted on Facebook, and missed Instagram and Twitter. So it may be a bit redundant of me to to ask if anybody saw the clue as the “reach” was even lower than usual. Bit of a hiccup that I’m going to going to hopefully sort out for my next poem clue.

I might as well just get to it eh? We want music! Well, today you have it! Todays writing music theme is the pub. Yep, today we are listening to music that encapsulates the feeling and atmosphere of the quintessential alehouse. The revelry, the cheers, the jeers. The chatter of aged men and the log fire surging in the corner. Despite not being a house, it always feels rather homely to me. You obviously do get those almost clinical chain bar/restaurants which have some convenience, but they simply don’t compare to a good old fashioned British pub. Sometimes they can be a tad rough, but that’s just part of the charm. Me and my brother practically grew up in a pub (not drinking obviously) and I’ve always enjoyed the feeling of standing on those beer-stained wood floors. It’s hard to actually describe the music that captures the feel of a pub, and yet I reckon that you can almost ‘picture’ it in your head already. Let’s see if I can match that image in your minds eh? Let’s have some drunken music!

Please join me as we delve into the musical minds of sloshed artists the world over!

Starship – We Built This City

And there we have it for another week! I don’t know about you but I fancy a pint now. Anybody able to send me a 4-pack of lager? That’d be wonderful. I’m joking of course! One shouldn’t really encourage overindulgence! Haha! I hope that you all enjoy the musical choices for this week and check these artists out if you haven’t already. They always deserve the attention, the music industry is vicious.

You know what else is vicious? Trying to get people to check out your social media pages. I know I say this every week on these posts but it would mean a great deal to me if you all considered following or liking me on my social media as well as here on WordPress. The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and for now at least, a page on Twitter as well. Also, you really enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page as well! Thanks for everything!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Good day inmates!

So another week done and dusted. Well sort of, I kind of judge it wednesday to wednesday with these musical posts. You get the idea. How has it all been for all of you? Exquisitely good I hope! It’s early in the year, but there’s no reason not to believe good times are ahead eh? The weather has been diabolical here on the island again. I had a feeling January was going to be a bit nasty in that respect. It has been in recent years. It’s particularly annoying as I’m in the market of job-seeking again and riding the bike in this weather is less than ideal. Regrettably I can’t make liveable money on what I do here at the asylum, that’s just the reality of being a hobbyist I suppose.

So, writing music. That’s what we’re here for isn’t it? I would ask if anybody saw the clue today but I fear it was a tad niche this week, so I feel like it’d make more sense to just get right now into it. Todays musical theme is a specific band once more. Todays ‘theme’ is the… Cruxshadows! We’re going a bit goth this week. The Cruxshadows are a “dark wave” band or more commonly called a dark synth-pop band from Florida in the USA. They are an electronic band that incorporates synth music (hence synth-pop) with light rock and violins. They’ve even been known to include dancers in their “roster” so to speak, for live shows and such. Beyond this, they very much hold the look of a gothic band with lots of black and alternative fashion for all the members.

The band is led by an odd gentleman called Rogue, who is the primary vocalist and songwriter. He is rather distinctive for his rather eccentric hairstyle and performance on stage. He has a habit of rushing about the stage willy-nilly and occasionally climbs on the supports and such. As for the music itself, they tend to be heavily influenced by Greek and Egyptian mythology, including songs about the mythic characters themselves. Aside from this, you have lots of romantic tunes, songs about the concept of deities and songs about depression. All of these come with a rather dancey style of music composition. Here, you’ll see what I mean.

Come join me as we delve into the musical minds of the Cruxshadows!

The Cruxshadows – Immortal

The Cruxshadows – Edge of the World

The Cruxshadows – Birthday

The Cruxshadows – Home

The Cruxshadows – Quicksilver

And there we have it! What do you guys think? It was hard to pick just five songs to be honest, I’ve been listening to these guys since I was a teenager and they’ve released a great deal of material in that time. I hope that you enjoy the musical choices this week and that decide to look further into this rather unique band. I’ll include their website here in just a moment. Go on, you know want to check them out. Go ooooon!

Here is their website: https://www.cruxshadows.org/

Speaking of all this website nonsense, would anybody like to check out my social media ones? The asylum has a few social media sites out there on the world whirly web you know! The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and also, for the time being, a site on Twitter as well! Please think about following or liking me over on those as well. Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page as well! Thanks for everything!
