This keyboard,
This plastic muse,
An instrument of your will,
Like the typewriters of old,
With these keys,
Q and A and N,
You can fire off a qwerty salvo,
For ire or peace,
Be you philosopher or troll?

This keyboard,
It’s a portal to the world,
A bridge for communication,
Or a facade for animosity,
Your hands become megaphones,
For complaints and poetry and belle-lettres,
The keys enable your artifice,
For ill or morality,
Be you dictator or philanthropist?

When my mind wanders,
Satchel in hand,
Along that silk road,
Passed borders and ideologies,
To those far eastern lands,
I cry tears of cracked sapphire,

My pleas may be silent,
But they are well-meaning,
Please reconsider,
Why not be a peoples republic,
For the actual people?
A land of plenty,

Such an elaborate and beautiful culture,
A land of swirling dragons,
A survivor of eras,
You should share your ways,
But not through a lense of conquest,
Join the party,

Is building a world,
With smog and meat wagons,
Wet markets and pointed heels,
With tear gas,
And censorship,
The only way for you?

Do you hate us so much?
Is control that important?
Are the parades of pride or of intimidation?
That great wall of yours,
Is it emotional as well physical?
Is it a bulwark against humanuity?

You’ve survived tyranny,
The burning rays of a rising sun,
And the hordes of mongolic composite bows,
You can be better,
A guardian spirit,
A watchful red dragon,

Please reconsider,
You can be better.

Good day inmates!

I hope that you’re all having a wonderfully crazy and safe day today! I must admit it’s been something of an uneventful week since my previous non-poem post. I’ve just been keeping my head down and writing everyday as normal. The weather has been very up and down once again, but the temperature has remained friendly. I’ve found myself feeling a little bit down the last few days, though I must confess I have no idea why. Some of you may have noticed a few reasonably “depressing” poems recently. I just needed to relinquish some angst I suppose. Best way to get it out eh?

So anyways, on to happier pastures! It’s time for part 40 of the Harlequins writing music! I’m very surprised nobody has begged me to stop making these by now! Haha! I remember when I began, I thought it’d only be 3-4 posts and everyone (including me) would grow bored of them. Alas, here we are! It’s time to share five more musical artists that I love listening to while writing. Or sometimes just when I’m chilling with a book. As always, I’ll try to keep it varied! We all like to listen to different kinds of music after all! Let’s see what we get today eh?

So, join me as we delve into the musical minds of extravagant artists the world over!

Mushroomhead – We Are The Truth

Paramore – Monster

VNV Nation – Illusion

Electric Six – Danger! High Voltage!

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Dani California

So there we have it for yet another tome of the Harlequins writing music!

Some well known artists there this time eh? Not everything I listen to has to be the most obscure Disco-goth-banjo-rock with opera vocals you know! I truly do listen to all sorts. I hope that you give these artists and their songs a chance anyway! I don’t believe you will be disappoined!

As I mentioned last time, I have a Facebook page, Twitter page and an Instagram page. I post some random stuff on each of these, as well as clues for each days poem a few hours beforehand. Sometimes I post weird photos of random objects in my room and “IRL” adventures! As always, if you like what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page! Thank you as always! I may or may not have copy and pasted that from last time! Haha!

Until next time, have a very crazy day my dear inmates!

Blogging,
The blogosphere,
This bionic web of broaching subjects busily,
Akin to a brother of a gallery building,
Bringing beauty to the bustling bunchs,
Beguiling brainchilds,
And boisterous begetters,
A bible for bibliophiles,

A bountiful ballad of books,
A bedlam of benign braggarts,
Blue art and burgundy art,
Babbling and baying,
Blending like a beautiful wine of bravura,
Bring on the baroque banquet,
More blogging,
Let’s be bloggers.

Hello inmates!

It’s been another crazy time since last wednesday. Here’s hoping that you’ve all been having a nice time. Hope you’re keeping as safe as possible! The UK is beginning to slowly slide towards a modicum of normality after Covid, with the majority of businesses and services being allowed to open in the coming week or two. There are odd exceptions, but we’re getting there I suppose. It’s hard to say if it’s too soon or not, but it appears to be relatively safe here on the Isle of Wight at least. It’s been wonderful to see and hear how well things have been going in New Zealand. All celebrations and life anew. I have a friend who lives there who says it’s a great feeling and I can totally believe it!

I’ve still been working hard to get more exposure for the asylum on social media though, I must confess, I don’t think i’m very good at it! Haha! I’ll include links to the social media pages at the end of this post because i’m a hopeless shill I suppose. With that said, i’ve been very humbled (as always) by the absolute darlings who grace these pages. You really don’t know how much of a boost you all give me.

It’s time for another post of the Harlequins writing music. And what a post we have for you today! Five more awesome musical artists to perhaps whet your personal appetites for creativity. Or perhaps even just to chill in the sun to. I wonder what marvels we have for you today! The voices haven’t told me ahead of time, I swear!

So, join me as we delve into the musical minds of catchy artists the world over!

ATC – All Around The World

Chevelle – The Red

She Wants Revenge – Out Of Control

Dolly Parton – Jolene

So there we have it for yet another tome of the Harlequins writing music!

That was quite a variety wasn’t it? I hope you all give some of these artists a try as always. They definitely all deserve it, especially the lesser-known ones. With that said, they’re all better known than me! Haha!

So, on to the shilling I suppose. I have a Facebook page, Twitter page and an Instagram page. I post some random stuff on each of these, as well as clues for each days poem a few hours beforehand. Sometimes I post weird photos of my adventures in “Real Life” or just random objects in my room. As always, if you like what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page! Thank you as always!

Until next week, I doff my hat to you and wish you a very crazy day inmates!

The Earth is amidst a storm,
Grey and ghastly skies,
But let us not forget,
When the world is taking in water,
There are those who wish for the future,
To have an upward trajectory,
For division to be subtracted,
Those whose years have not yet seen the gloom,

The youths wield their weapons,
Spraycans and paint,
They wash the drab away,
With images of doves,
And purple fingers crossed,
A mural of prismatic positivity,
In violets and teals,
Tattooing the world with hopeful graffiti,

I envy their zeal,
They wave and call to hopes light,
As it crosses the street,
Elusive hat brim floorward,
Does hope hear them?
Does it see their art?
Does it hear their pleas?
Or does it continue on into the rain?

Good day inmates!

Here’s hoping you are having a wonderful wednesday! It’s been more or less smooth sailing here at the asylum. I’ve been really happy with the recent poems i’ve posted, which believe it or not is a rarity for me. I don’t tend to like my own work. I feel that is a curse of the creative soul. I’ve been trying to grow the blog, get some exposure on other sites and just being a wacky little streak of moonlight. It’s been rather tiring I will confess. I know that fame or being noticed isn’t really the point of this blog or my writing, but do you ever wonder if there is an “end result” so to speak? This is a genuine question to my fellow inmates out there. Is the writing itself the point? Or do we seek some kind of validation? I’ve laid awake some nights recently wondering.

So, it’s time for part thirty-eight of the Harlequins writing music. Many of you will know the drill by now I imagine! Five musical artists that I like to listen to when i’m either writing or thinking about writing (procrastination be damned). I do say this every time, but it bears mentioning. I will be attempting to vary it up a bit, I like to get different kinds of vibes and images from all different genres. And it also has the added bonus of presenting something for everyone, if that makes sense! So here we go!

So, join me as we delve into the musical minds of canny artists the world over!

The Birthday Massacre – In The Dark
http://www.thebirthdaymassacre.com/home.html

Scatman John – Scatman (ski-ba-bop-ba-dop-bop)
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrW3wr4Xau3UssnByxsHdCg

Pale Waves – Television Romance
https://www.palewaves.co.uk/

Rise Against – Prayer Of The Refugee
http://www.riseagainst.com/

HIM – The Sacrament
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM10srINLaSQFrcDVmHV0gA

So there we have it for yet another edition of the Harlequins writing music!

I hope that you give all of these artists a fair chance. They all deserve the exposure and the attention, in my eyes at least. Bit of a mix there eh? Especially that Scatman John, now that’s one you don’t hear every day!

Now, as I mentioned i’m trying to get more exposure for the asylum right now. I have a Facebook page, Twitter page and an Instagram page. I post some random stuff on each of these, as well as clues for each days poem a few hours beforehand. Just for a little bit of fun of course! A little bit of self-promotion can be a slight confidence boost! Haha! As always, if you like what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page! Thank you so much!

So, until next time, have a very crazy day and upcoming week inmates!

Hello there inmates!

I hope that you’re all having a terrifically lovely day! The world has gone completely barmy right now hasn’t it? It truly is an asylum as I thought. First a near-war between certain nations, economies threatening to collapse, then a worldwide pandemic, then worldwide race riots. It’s enough to make anybody deranged. With that said, I do feel for those who have been affected by the recent events. The asylum has always stood for individuality in all forms, whether it be race, sexuality, beliefs, dressing style or simply interests. I have written a few so-called “social justice” poems recently, so I wanted this to be known. Me and the voices condemn racism and bigotry.

So, moving on, the asylum has been running quite well this week. I have found my sleeping pattern to be a little askew though, I must confess. I’m sleeping a tad too much I fear, even having naps in the middle of the day. I’m a little torn on if I like or loath this so far! Haha!

So, for the Harlequins writing music post today i’m going to be doing something i’ve only done once or twice so far. As you may know, it was D-day the other day (the 6th of June). I had another piece ready for that day so I didn’t create something specifically for it. So instead i’m going to share five songs from a specific band that I feel are a wonderful tribute to the soldiers and heroes in their own ways. This band is called Sabaton. They are a power metal band from Sweden who create songs mostly about the subject of war. They come across as quite cheesy and over the top in their lyrics at times. However, they do this in ways that are very respectful and in no way glorify violence. I even find some of their songs quite educational. They even have begun their own history documentary on Youtube! Having had family who fought in World War 2, I feel quite strongly about this. So, I felt it was a good tribute to those who fought on D-day to share this band! Lest we forget!

So join me as we delve into the heroic minds of Sabaton!

Sabaton – Primo Victoria

Sabaton – To Hell And Back

Sabaton – Bismarck

Sabaton – Aces In Excile

Sabaton – The Final Solution

So there we have it for yet another scribbling of the Harlequins writing music!

As always I’ll include the link to the bands website here. I hope you all give this band a chance even if metal music isn’t really your thing. They are really dedicated to honouring the soldiers and calling out evil. They also are very big on educating people about the various wars they cover. You could learn a lot! Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it after all!

So I have two different things to endorse today. Firstly, as always, if you like what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page! Thank you so much! Secondly, I wanted to draw attention to a Facebook group that some creative friends and I created a short time ago. It’s called The Emotional Alchemist. It is a group for writers to share their work and just get support or advice about writing. No judgement, just mutual love for creating. If that sounds at all interesting to you, feel free to come join us!

So, that’s all for today so until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

The likes,
It’s all about the likes,
An unfathomable habit,
Please like them,
Please like this,
Please like that,
Please like me,

There’s a monkey on my back,
That likes anything and everything,
A dirty injection of blue,
An azure pill on the tongue,
A line of tainted teal powder,
Smoke from a spliff,
In the aspect of a thumbs up,

The world wide web,
It’s my dealer,
Trenchcoat and hat held low,
Robotic mannerisms,
His sales pitch?
“Here, just like and subscribe”,
A demeaning transaction,

I crawl up to it,
Languishing and broken and hungry,
But it offers no sustenance,
No banquet,
Just the likes,
And I still thank it,
I’m addicted to be sure,

Please like this,
Please like that,
Please like me.

I stumble on,
I’m a necrotic husk,
I’m a zombie in a lab,
Hooked up to rancid drips,
Via barbs of mouse clicks,
Lurching around a connected world,

Dead eyes locked on to a screen,
Following a trough of media feed,
All thumbs and yellow smirks,
Opinions and threats zooming by,
My gaunt expression never shifts,
Wearily drooling,

Necromantic interaction,
Torn skin of shallow sheep,
Guts of private conversations,
Detritus of attention seeking,
Red chocolate of tribalism,
I’m a consumer of social flesh,

Am I addicted?
Is this addiction?
But I must eat to function,
I must consume to exist,
So is this addiction a necessity,
In this modern social world.
