Hello there inmates!

How are we all doing this week? And by ‘we’ I obviously mean all of you lovely people out there. I hope you’ve all been creating to your hearts content. I really need to get into the habit of looking through more peoples blogs and websites. Not to mention interacting more with other bloggers. I seem to be lax with this recently and it’s not great. That’s something for me to work on I suppose. Also, it’s starting to look a lot like Christmas now. Or so all the adverts keep telling me. I’m not a great fan as I’ve mentioned before.

Enough about the holidays for now though. It’s time for music isn’t it? The Harlequins writing music that is! Did anybody see the clue for todays musical theme earlier on? I know I ask that every week but I am genuinely curious how many people see them.

Todays musical theme is that abhorrent thing we all call love. Or romance. Or affection. What ever nomenclature you prefer. It’s a pretty integral part of the human experience isn’t it? It can be love of a partner, love of family and I suppose even love for oneself. I think it would be reasonable to say that everyone feels love at some point or other. An assumption perhaps. But a safe one I feel. When it comes to music, there is no shortage of musical artists who play music themed around romance or love. I’d say that some of the most well known songs ever definitely romantic ballads. Lionel Richie anybody? Incidentally not on todays list, but you get the idea. Speaking of, who wants to see todays musical choices? “Hurry up you stupid clown!” I hear you shout. Ok, ok, I’m getting on with it!

And there we have it once again! Have these choices made your heart ache? Beat faster? Well good, they’re all excellent songs and artists. Haha! I hope that you all give them some love as they all deserve it. Maybe play one of them to someone who is important to you. Dance with a loved one. Profess your feelings to somebody through music.

Enough about all that soppy stuff eh? Let’s have some social media nonsense. The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and a page over on Twitter as well. Hey there inmates!

How’s your week going so far? Got over your Halloween blues? I for one am missing it terribly. I had an amazing weekend with some equally amazing friends and I’ll remember it for a while. I hope that all of your weekends were as joyous. I’m still not feeling completely 100% as this week has ground on, but I’m surviving. It’s allowed me plenty of time to think about writing subjects unimpeded. I hope that has shown through the poems this week.

As for todays post though, it’s time for the Harlequins writing music once again. I posted a clue for the theme over on my social media earlier on today. Did any of you see it? If not, I sincerely hope that you’ll consider following me over on those sites too. There’ll be links at the end of the post. Anyways, todays musical theme is machinery!

Yep, that manmade marvel that makes the human world go round! It is part of all of our lives, I’d say almost as much as more “techy” pieces of apparatus. Shifting gears, winding cogs and pistons. They aren’t seen as often, but are always working behind the scenes. In our automobiles, our elevators, our bridges. Musically, the magic of machines has inspired all sorts, even a genre or two. Ever heard of Steampunk or Dieselpunk for example? The rhythmic drum of engines, combined with mathematics and industry can inspire musical structure, as well as musical subject matter. Let’s see if I can demonstrate what I mean…

And there we have it once again! Let me know how much you enjoy these choices, or if you didn’t as well of course! I think I managed to get a pretty varied selection this week, while keeping fairly tightly to the theme. What do you think? Oh also, be sure to check out all of these artists if you get a chance, they all deserve the attention!

Speaking of attention, I mentioned social media earlier. The asylum has a page over on Facebook of course, an account on Instagram and a page over on Twitter. Please consider following me over on those pages too, it really helps me out. Also, if you really enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page. Thanks for everything!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Good day inmates!

I hope this post finds you well my friends. It is a bit later in the day than I had intended but work got in the way as it is inclined to do. I hope you’re all having a remarkable day and you feel fulfilled with the contents of said day! Its been a very busy week already and it nowhere near over yet! It brings in the cash to live on though I suppose.

Its time for another episode of the Harlequins writing music! As the title may have already revealed, this week shall be a tad different. I’m going to share five of my favourite live videos from some of the worlds greatest artists! I even watch entire live shows while im writing occasionally. There really is nothing like the ecstatic fever of an enamored crowd. It gives the music itself even more of an impact. It’s really something. Care to see? Well, best get all comfy and equip your best headphones! Let’s do this!

Another week, another volume of the Harlequins writing music! I hope that you all enjoy the particular bands and shows that I picked. Just imagine yourself among those crowds and stand in awe of these marvellous artists. I think that would be a experience of a lifetime!

So, we come to the social media section.  I have a Facebook pagea Twitter account and an Instagram page. Also, if you like what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over at the Ko-fi page. Thanks for everything inmates!

Until next time, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

I hope you’re all having a marvellous day today! Things have been looking up fairly consistently this last week. Both in terms of finding work and in my personal life. With that said, it may be unclear that things have been positive with the few poems I’ve written the last few days. Fear not however, I am doing alright. I merely have drawn inspiration from the darker side of the psyche! Haha! As for the blog, things are great to be quite frank. Ive been, as always, very humbled by the responses I’ve been receiving for them.

So it’s time for the next rendition of the Harlequins writing music. Still crawling up to part 50. I decided to do something a tad different in this particular instance. Instead of sharing five general artists I like listening to, I’m going to share five cover songs that I really enjoy. These may be from artists I’ve shown before, but the covers they’ve created. I think it takes real talent to take a song (occasionally a very famous one), and make it your own. I feel it can go wrong very easily. So, lets see how they do eh?

So there we have it for another tome of the Harlequins writing music!

Some good songs there eh? In a few instances, I actually prefer them to the originals. I understand that may be anathema to some of your ears but am I not an honest clown? Regardless, I feel it is worth giving all of these artists a chance. Whether it be their covers or their own original works. Go for it!

As you may have read somewhere before, the asylum has some social media platforms. I have a Facebook page, a twitter account and an Instagram page. It’d be grand if any of gorgeous inmates could follow me over there too! Oh, and as always, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-fi page! Youre all breathtaking!

Until next time, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello again inmates!

Well, here it is! As I mentioned before, I’m posting something a little more “musical” and as unsurprising as it may be, it’s a Halloween special of the Harlequins writing music! It’s the time for trick-or-treating, costume parties and generally being freaky. Music can fit all of these things, music can transform fear into terror and unease into panic. Music and Halloween go hand in hand.

I listen to a great many bands, both obscure and popular. As you may know, I try to keep it as varied as i can. With Halloween upon us, I felt that it would be quite apt to post the bands and songs I write with that fit well with Halloween. Crunching metal epics, fancy costumes and spooky electronic jingles can all be found here. I believe I’ve posted a few of these bands before, but I shall try to keep the songs new. You may know some of these bands, you may not know some of them, however I guarantee you won’t be disappointed in these choices. Unless you’re easily freaked out I suppose.

Now, let us delve into the musical minds of freakish artists the world over!

Marilyn Manson – This Is Halloween

So there we have it for another edition! I included a few more songs than usual, with this being a special occasion and all. Here’s hoping that you’ve enjoyed this edition of the Harlequins writing music, I hope that you check out these artists. And once again, I hope that you all have a very happy Halloween! Now, I’m going to go and cut a pumpkin, or something like that. Haha!

Until next time, have a very crazy day inmates!

Greetings inmates!

Raise your hand if you like to write or type in silence?

I’m willing to bet that the majority of people play some music while they do, whether it’s to help them think or to just to keep the silence away. Some people listen to their favourite artists, whether it be a metal band, a rapper or some kind of DJ. Personally, i always listen to music while writing. It helps me think and I can say for certain that quite a lot of my ideas have been inspired by various songs. I’m going to post some of the songs here that i like to listen to while i come up with my stories, poems and characters. Some of these will be probably unsurprising: esoteric, ghostly electronic numbers. Others… not so much. Some may almost seem like they would hinder one’s thought process.

Allow me to introduce some of the Oldschool Harlequins writing music…

I’ve included links to these bands websites and such as i believe they all deserve more exposure. Hope you enjoy my choices, I’ll come back with a part 2 in the near future.

Have a crazy day!
