Hello there inmates!

So, another chilly December week is here (or halfway gone) and the Christmas adverts are beginning to become rather grating. The music is always going to be a negative for me when it comes to this time of year. So, I would not expect a ‘Xmas-themed’ list if I’m honest. It’s like “Yes, I get that it’s Christmas but do we need to be bombarded?!”, it’s tiresome. Anyway, enough about that, how have you all been? Keeping those creative furnaces burning hot I hope. Especially in this cold weather!

So, it’s time once again for the Harlequins writing music! As always, I shared a clue for the theme earlier on today. Did anybody see it and guess correctly?

Well, the musical theme for today is Bereavement. Oh yes, a tad less positive than last week eh? It’s something that I think every single person on this planet has experienced at least once in their lives. That includes musicians as well you know. As such, many artists have created songs based around the feelings of grief or more specific to the individual that they have lost. Somebody may write a song about losing their mother in particular, for example. Another artist may write about the life story of a family member. Music has a unique way of shining light upon emotional distress and so I feel it’s the best way to deal with feelings of sorrow and loss. I hope many of you would agree.

Would you kindly join me as we delve into the musical minds of solemn artists the world over!

My Chemical Romance – Helena

Slipknot – Snuff

VNV Nation – Illusion

Lewis Capaldi – Someone You Loved

The 1975 – Nana

And there we have it! Are there ninjas cutting onions in here? I can feel my eyes water a tad. I hope you enjoy the musical choices this week. Please check all of these artists out, they all deserve the attention!

Speaking of attention, I’m on social media you know! The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Twitter and even a page over on Instagram. Please follow me over on those too eh? It really helps me out! If you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page. Thanks for everything!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello again inmates!

Well, here it is! As I mentioned before, I’m posting something a little more “musical” and as unsurprising as it may be, it’s a Halloween special of the Harlequins writing music! It’s the time for trick-or-treating, costume parties and generally being freaky. Music can fit all of these things, music can transform fear into terror and unease into panic. Music and Halloween go hand in hand.

I listen to a great many bands, both obscure and popular. As you may know, I try to keep it as varied as i can. With Halloween upon us, I felt that it would be quite apt to post the bands and songs I write with that fit well with Halloween. Crunching metal epics, fancy costumes and spooky electronic jingles can all be found here. I believe I’ve posted a few of these bands before, but I shall try to keep the songs new. You may know some of these bands, you may not know some of them, however I guarantee you won’t be disappointed in these choices. Unless you’re easily freaked out I suppose.

Now, let us delve into the musical minds of freakish artists the world over!

God Module – Spooky

Steam Powered Giraffe – Me And My Baby (Saturday Night)

The Shanklin Freak Show – Funny Farm

Poets Of The Fall – Daze

Slipknot – Dead Memories

Warren Zevon – Werewolves In London

Marilyn Manson – This Is Halloween

So there we have it for another edition! I included a few more songs than usual, with this being a special occasion and all. Here’s hoping that you’ve enjoyed this edition of the Harlequins writing music, I hope that you check out these artists. And once again, I hope that you all have a very happy Halloween! Now, I’m going to go and cut a pumpkin, or something like that. Haha!

Until next time, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

I hope that you’re all having a fine day! It’s finally time for yet another edition of the Harlequins writing music. It feels like ages since I actually posted the last one of these. I’m fairly sure it was over a month ago. That simply won’t do! There has been a lot going on here at the asylum you see. A busy time indeed. I haven’t been posting nearly as much as I’d like to due to all of this. I’m trying to get back into a routine though, so I suppose we shall see. Wish me luck eh?

So here we are once again, I’m going to present to you some more fine bands that I often listen to while I write. I try to keep it as varied as possible. No single genre here my friends!

Now, let us delve into the musical minds of estimable artists the world over!

Cider Sky – Northern Lights

Gackt – Redemption

Paul Shapera – New Albion 1

Maximum The Hormone – Koi No Mega Lover

Slipknot – Vermillion

So there you have it! I’d say that’s a pretty varied little musical journey into the aether, wouldn’t you? A little bit of madness, a touch of calmness and then finished off with a dash of mournful rage. A veritable odyssey I say! I hope that you’ve enjoyed this edition of the Harlequins writing music and I hope to see you all again soon! I’m still working on a few pieces to be posted up, so watch out for those in the next few days. Tally-ho!

Until next time, have a supremely crazy day inmates!
