Hey there inmates!

How are you doing? Having a nice week? Keeping your socks clean and such? That’s just fab to hear! I’m having an alright week as well. I’ve felt productive and reasonably confident in my work, which is always something of a novelty. I think it’s that novel nature that leads me to declare it each time it happens. Almost like memorializing it for myself. Haha!

So, it’s a wednesday. Once more into the breach! It’s time for another edition of the Harlequins writing music today. Once again there is a theme to my musical choices today. Have any of you seen the clue on my social media? Any idea what it is? To be honest, it was a pretty obvious clue. But not everything has to be so machiavellian eh?

The theme for todays post is space! The very image and enigma of space has inspired countless artists in the past. Oh yes indeed! That “final frontier” in the words of one of those Star Trek guys. I’ve always found it fascinating. From the moon, to the stars. From artwork of a nebula, to the planets of our solar system. It’s just all so gargantuan and beyond anything a human mind can conceivably compute. It’s just so inspiring. I can spend hours of the night just looking up wondering what’s up there. What mysteries does that black void hold? There are many songs about aspects of space. Or just give the feeling of floating around in a vacuum. Many people write about the moon and it’s eerie but romantic face. I’ve heard songs about the night sky as an image, a giant landscape painting. I could go on all day, but I imagine you guys want to hear some music eh? Let’s listen to five song and artists that I feel encompass the marvels of the stars beyond.

Join me, as we delve into the musical minds of intergalactic artists the world over!

TheFatRat – MAYDAY

Peter Schilling – Major Tom

Muse – Supermassive Black Hole

David Bowie – Space Oddity
https://livemap.davidbowie.com/

Thin Lizzy – Dancing In The Moonlight
http://www.thinlizzy.org/

And there we go for another volume of the Harlequins writing music!

So, what do you think? There’s some intergalactic tunes for you all. There are many others I could have included of course. Special mention to Walking on the moon by REM, it missed the list by the slimmest of margins. I also think it’s worth mentioning the sheer number of relaxation mixes of music inspired by space. Nothing is more calming than some soft echoing tones while looking at beautiful picture of the universe. I hope you all enjoy my choices for this week and that you check these artists out if you’re unfamiliar. I know it’s basically a cardinal sin to not have heard of David Bowie, but even so! Haha!

Let’s have some social media nonsense for this week eh? The asylum has a presence on other social media sites. I have a Facebook page, an Instagram page and an account on Twitter. I share random things over there and I also share clues for my poems and writing music themes a few hours before they are posted. If you enjoy what I do here at the Asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page. Thanks for everything people!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

I hope you’re all having a wonderful week. Mine has felt extremely productive, which is a very freeing feeling I must say! I’ve gotten the impression that my works this week have been a tad more “hard-hitting” than average. The epitome for me was “Domestic Bliss” which, as may be clear, was derived from real life experience and anguish. I was content with how it came out though and I hope you all enjoyed it.

So, it’s time for the Harlequins writing music! Any of you who happen to follow my social media may have already guessed the theme for todays post from my clue. I hope it wasn’t too obscure. So, the theme of todays music picks is rebellion. What is rebellion? The spirit of freedom and the will to ask questions, even against authority. Criticising your own government is one area that most think of when you hear the term rebel. The determination to be yourself regardless of those cupped whispers. It can be misconstrued as childishness at times I supppose, but that tends to be from people who seek to stand on you. This rebellious spirit has sparked many artists over the years, from punks to anarchists, from anti-establishment types to followers of particular politicos. These can span genres of all kinds and there are no shortages of artists to pick from.

So, let’s see what I have come up with. Do you agree with my ‘lower than layman’ take on rebellion? Or do you think I’m being overly vague? I think I’m still getting the hang of this. So let’s see which five artists we have today eh?

Join me as we delve into the musical minds of rebellious artists the world over!

System Of The Down – B.Y.O.B.

And there we have it for todays edition!

So, how about those choices eh? I’m hoping they displayed some rebellious spirit for you all to enjoy. There were a few others I toyed with choosing, but maybe they’ll appear some other time. I hope you’ve enjoyed my choices and that you check any of these artists if you’re unfamiliar, they all deserve it!

So, lets have some social media spiel! If you want to see clues for my poems and weiting music themes ahead of time, consider liking/following me over there! I have an account on Facebook, an account over on Instagram and last but not least a page on Twitter. Good day inmates!

I hope everyone is well and keeping safe out there. The world is still a mental place, with new twists and turns daily! It’s like a piece of art that the creator wants to keep changing and simply cannot settle on anything. So I suppose I’m just saying take care and expect the unexpected everyone! The pandemic is still going strong and the worlds other dangers remain in the flanks. There has been a rather high profile murder of a young woman by a police officer here in the UK that has been raising some issues about womens safety on the streets at night. It really has made me think about how different things are for ladies walking alone. It’s scary and it’s sad that not everyone can feel safe out in public.

So, it’s time for another burst of the Harlequins writing music today! As I was saying last week, these posts are going to have a theme from now on. I posted a clue for todays theme on social media a few hours ago. Did anybody get it?

That’s right! Today’s musical theme is the 80s! And what a time for music it was! Slightly before my time, but I like to think my tastes were influenced by it nonetheless. Entire new subcultures and styles were sprouting up and becoming more mainstream. Some artists that we consider greats nowadays were birthed in the crucible of the 80s music scene. David Bowie, The Cure and Prince for a few examples! I’m not necessarily saying that things weren’t great and varied before the 80s, but I feel it’s a decade of variety. So, enough from this musical amateur, do you want to hear the maestros play? Let’s hear five songs and artists that I feel represent the theme of the 80s!

Michael Jackson- Smooth Criminal

The Clash – Rock The Casbah
https://www.theclash.com/

The Damned – Eloise
https://www.officialdamned.com/

So there we have it for today!

So, I hope that you enjoy all of these my friends. I could have picked so many other artists instead of these. It was so hard to settle on any of these. There were just too many! So heres hoping I didn’t go for some disappointing choices and these bring you all some nostalgic joy!

So, I best throw out my social media nonsense eh? The asylum has a prescence on Facebook, an account on Instagram and also a Twitter page. It would be so cool of you all to come and like or follow me over there. I post some fun stuff, clues for my poems and now writing music posts. Also, as always, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over at the Ko-fi page! Cheers my friends!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

I hope that you’ve all had a wonderful week. You better be keeping safe out there, don’t make me get the jester stick! I’m kidding of course but I don’t want anybody to be having any trouble or illness! It’s been an comfortable week here at the asylum, though a tad uneventful. I’ve realised I am in serious need of some storage folders or something for my papers as they have outgrown the drawers they inhabited up to this point. Definitely something I’ll be looking into in the coming week. With the exception of one poem, I’ve actually felt less confident about the poems I’ve put out this week. I’m not sure if that’s just my usual self-deprecation or if they have been of lesser quality.

So, enough with the moaning, how about some music? It’s the Harlequins writing music today dont you know! I’ve decided to do something slightly different this week. I have done this same thing in the past, but I think that it’s been a while. I’m going to share some of my favourite covers this time! I think an artist can reshape an already great tune and make something new and beautiful. It may even shine a different kind of light upon the song and bring forth new resonance from it. Let’s see how these particular covers perform for you wonderful people.

The Hellacopters & Papa Emeritus IV (Ghost) – Sympathy For The Devil (Rolling Stones cover)
https://m.facebook.com/thehellacopters

And there we have it for another edition of the Harlequins writing music!

Some interesting covers there no! I was actually more hard-pressed to pick covers than I was to pick artists for my “traditional” writing music posts! I hope that you all enjoy my picks and you also check out these artists. That includes their own works as well! I honestly don’t think you’ll be disappointed with any of them!

So, how about some social media stuff eh? The asylum has a page on Facebook, I have a account over on Instagram and a page over on Twitter. It’d mean a lot to me if any of you cool cats would like/follow me over there, it really helps a great deal! Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over at the Ko-fi page! Cheers my friends!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

I hope that the day finds you all well and making the most of every hour! It’s been a rather mundane week, but its allowed me to find some curious subjects for poems. I was particularly happy with ‘Hood’ which comes from my interest in military history and ‘Bloodied Asphalt’ which was inspired by a news story here on the island this week. A little different from my recent stuff I feel! Hope it’s been enjoyable!

So, here’s another edition of the Harlequins writing music! It’s going to be another smorgasbord of musical artists for you people to get down and arty with! It’ll be five artists again this week. Let’s see what I came up with this time eh? I can barely contain the anticipation of what past-me came with!

So, join me as we delve into the musical minds of wonderful artists the world over!

Coyote Kisses – Six Shooter
https://bassmusic.fandom.com/wiki/Coyote_Kisses

Serj Tankian – Empty Walls
https://serjtankian.com/

Port Sulphur Band – Rise Up Dead Man
https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCdH8YP4UmTlnBNS3Zs6HlQQ

Initial D – Running In The 90s
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurizio_De_Jorio

Smashing Pumpkins – Bullet With Butterfly Wings
https://smashingpumpkins.com/

And there we have it for another outburst of the Harlequins writing music!

Some curious choices there no? There was one in particular that was a slight nuisance to find the information for and that was the Initial D one. You see, Initial D is actually a manga/anime/movie that quite a few eurodance tracks are attributed to, including this one. However the actual artist is the Italian man I have linked to. Just to clear up any confusion.

So, I’m going to move on to my social media nonsense now. The asylum has a page on Facebook, and account over on Instagram and even a page on Twitter. It would help me a lot if you glorious people could come follow/like me if you enjoy my work. Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over at the Ko-fi page! Thank you for everything!

So, much gratitude to you fine folks and until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

It’s that time of the week again! Hope you’re all having a beautiful time and keeping each other safe. It’s been a cold one, though it’s apparantly forecast to warm up here in the UK. I’ll believe it when I see it of course! It’s hardly a thing to be expected in this very grey nation! Haha!

So, todays post has an element of synchronicity to it. We’re getting started with the 70s now. Not the decade mind you. As you may remember, it was part 70 of the Harlequins writing music last week. So, what’s synchronous Harley? Well, let me learn ya! A few days ago, I also realised that I have just passed 700 total posts on the blog since it was spawned. Granted a few are reblogs, but still the vast majority are not. It appears that I write too much! Haha! Too many sevens! I dont know what that means, but it was an amusing realisation on my part. Is there a meaning do you think?

Well, let’s leave all of that and share some musical artists to create art to eh? You came here for music today! Join me as we delve into the musical minds of ecstatic artists the world over!

Dead Lights – The Host

Dio – Holy Diver

Junior Senior – Move Your Feet

The Raconteurs – Steady As She Goes
https://www.theraconteurs.com

Sick Puppies – You’re Going Down
http://sickpuppies.com

And there you have it for another edition of the Harlequins writing music!

So how about that? A decent variety there, though in hindsight it doesn’t seem as varied as previous posts. Regardless, I do hope that you enjoy these choices and go and give them some love. They definitely all deserve it! I’ll try to make next weeks post as wacky as possible. Oh, I do love wacky music!

So, I’ll drop my social media stuff here too as usual. The asylum has a Facebook page, an Instagram account and a twitter account. It’d be so helpful if any of you would come over and drop a like/follow. It really helps me out! Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over at the Ko-fi page! Thank you for everything!

So, until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Good day inmates!

How are you all doing? Having a productive week? One hopes so. One hopes you’ve all been giving time to your internal voices and spawning art into the world. I think expression of ones soul (however odd) is the greatest gift a person can give to the world. Why am I saying any of this? I’m not too sure myself, I simply surmise I had it on my mind this morning and had to get it out. I’ve been in a mighty emotional and sentimental mood this week, hence the poem yesterday in particular. We all have those times though eh?

So, paint me pink and call me a panther! Can you believe it? Part seventy of the Harlequins writing music! To think I didn’t stop these after the first five or so. Haha! I’ll be sharing five more artists today that I enjoy listening to while I’m trying to write and when I’m staring at the ceiling thinking! As always, I try to vary these at least a little bit. Nobody wants to stick holdfastly to one genre surely! Variety is the spice of life and all that. Enough babble, want some music? Let’s go!

And there we have it for another edition of the Harlequins writing music!

What did you guys think of of that then? Quite a mix this week eh? One of these bands (Orbit Culture) I only found this week as well, so that was a great find. I hope you all give these artists a gander and show your love. They all deserve the exposure I feel. Hopefully there’s something for everyone here today.

So, let’s get this social media spiel aout of the way eh? The WorldOfHarley has a page on Facebook, I have an account on Twitter and an page over on Instagram as well! Come show your love to the asylum! Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over at the Ko-fi page! Thanks for everything!

So, until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Good day inmates!

I hope that everyone has been keeping well and safe this last week. It’s been a reasonablly uneventful week for myself, but I’ve been making the most of it. I guess it can’t be a historically groundbreaking week every time eh? That would get dull. It’s felt like a slow week so far, it feels like an eternity since the weekend already. I’m not quite sure why myself. I’m missing Tash and socialising in general I think, this whole plague business has really sent life as we knew it up the creek.

But enough of all that, how about todays post? Well it’s wednesday my dudes, and that means it’s time for another visitation of the Harlequins writing music! I’ve actually been going out of my way to find some new artists this previous week. Partly forthis post, but also because it’s a hobby of mine to descend down musical rabbit holes and see what hellscapes and wonderlands I find. Would you like to see five artists that I have come up with? Of course you do!

So, join me as we delve into the musical minds of surprising artists the world over!

And there we have it for another week!

A bit of a varied selection there, no? Merely a small showing of the artists that entertain and inspire me with their tones. I hope you check out all of these yourselves and maybe even find a new favourite. They all deserve the love.

On a minor side note, a query. I’ve been trying to think of some way to expand the reach of the blog or have some different stuff up here at the asylum (and failing miserably!). I’ve more or less hit an internal wall. Would any of you beautiful people have any ideas for me? Or words of encouragement?

So, it’s time or my usual social media spiel! The asylum has a presence in a few corners of the web. I have a page on Facebook which you should totally come and like. I have an Instagram account and an account on twitter. We have some fun over there at times! Also, as always, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over at the Ko-fi page! Cheers my friends!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello there inmates!

One hopes that you’re all having an excellent time at the moment. It’s been a fairly average week for us here at the asylum. Not really a great deal to report if I’m honest. Unfortunately I fear that is going to be the general theme of 2021. Call me negative, but all evidence is pointing thusly so far. It does mean getting writing done has been rather easy. When you have nothing going on, it is rather easy to find time. I’ve actually been especially proud of some of the recent poems I’ve summoned from the dark beyond.

Well, you know what day it is! Wednesday! So, that means it’s time for the next visitation of the Harlequins writing music. For anyone who is unaware of these posts, I’ll be sharing five music artists that I enjoy listening to and drawing inspiration from. Ill be including links so you can all explore these artists yourself, and who knows, maybe disover a new favourite. You never know eh?

So how about that eh? Some curious choices there, don’t you think? I hope that you all check out these artists and give them some love. As alway, I feel that they all deserve it. I’ve tried to vary it as much as possible to hopefully interest as many of you lovely people as possible.

So, how about some social media links eh? I have a prescence on Facebook, an account over on Instagram and an account on Twitter. Show me some love over there eh? I post all sorts of random stuff on there, as well as clues for my poems a few hours before they’re posted. As always, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over at the Ko-fi page! Cheers for everything!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Within the electric jungle of neon,
I found a singular music man,
With a keyboard of 88 keys,
Magnificent to the touch,
An instrument of joy with such depth,
To be heard across oceans,
An entertainer to the core,

If you come across him,
He’ll play you a tune with heavenly finesse,
He’ll be your muse for a good minute,
Notes to act as a rally for spirits of jubilation,
Soundscapes to raise the humours,
The maestro will take any requested arrangement,
Solely to summon a smile,

So while you sip your poison of choice,
Reclined at the end of another day,
Losing yourself in windows of the web,
Take a deep breath,
And click next,
You may meet him too,
And hear those adroit notes yourself.
