Hello there inmates!

How are we all doing this week? And by ‘we’ I obviously mean all of you lovely people out there. I hope you’ve all been creating to your hearts content. I really need to get into the habit of looking through more peoples blogs and websites. Not to mention interacting more with other bloggers. I seem to be lax with this recently and it’s not great. That’s something for me to work on I suppose. Also, it’s starting to look a lot like Christmas now. Or so all the adverts keep telling me. I’m not a great fan as I’ve mentioned before.

Enough about the holidays for now though. It’s time for music isn’t it? The Harlequins writing music that is! Did anybody see the clue for todays musical theme earlier on? I know I ask that every week but I am genuinely curious how many people see them.

Todays musical theme is that abhorrent thing we all call love. Or romance. Or affection. What ever nomenclature you prefer. It’s a pretty integral part of the human experience isn’t it? It can be love of a partner, love of family and I suppose even love for oneself. I think it would be reasonable to say that everyone feels love at some point or other. An assumption perhaps. But a safe one I feel. When it comes to music, there is no shortage of musical artists who play music themed around romance or love. I’d say that some of the most well known songs ever definitely romantic ballads. Lionel Richie anybody? Incidentally not on todays list, but you get the idea. Speaking of, who wants to see todays musical choices? “Hurry up you stupid clown!” I hear you shout. Ok, ok, I’m getting on with it!

And there we have it once again! Have these choices made your heart ache? Beat faster? Well good, they’re all excellent songs and artists. Haha! I hope that you all give them some love as they all deserve it. Maybe play one of them to someone who is important to you. Dance with a loved one. Profess your feelings to somebody through music.

Enough about all that soppy stuff eh? Let’s have some social media nonsense. The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and a page over on Twitter as well. Hello there inmates!

How are you doing this week? Drinking enough water? That’s great my friend! It’s been a bit of a lower week on my end unfortunately. Feeling far more up and down than my usual. Definitely not been having so much of a good time. I’m not going to go in to the reasons for this or anything, I’d rather keep it private. All I will say is don’t be too surprised if my works in the next little while are likely to be on the darker or moodier side. Just for a change right? I suppose that’s not overly unusual for this here blog, but still! Keep that in mind.

So, it’s time for yet another edition of the Harlequins writing music. Music is always the way to get across the voices and feelings in ones heart no? On that point, did anybody see the clue for todays musical theme? I posted it on the usual social media channels. Did anybody see it? Well, allow me to unveil what it was alluding to!

The musical theme for this week, and this may not be surprising given how I began this post, is sorrow and loneliness. Yep, we’re being a bit ‘Emo’ today. Sadness is one of the primary emotions that govern the human experience. It can’t be avoided really. As such, there is no surprise that countless artists over the years have written about the feeling of sadness and all the related elements of that. Depression, loneliness and self-loathing. These things and more are common elements in almost every music artists repertoire. Even the most dancey, most upbeat artists will still include a song about being sad about something. It’s just a fact of human life. I’m preaching to the choir a bit here I realise so how about we move on to the actual music? That’s what you’re here for eh?

And there we have it. Please try to hold your tears. I hope these musical choices don’t ruin your day or evening. These artists all deserve your attention, despite the more glum showings I’ve featured here. They are all really good. Here’s hoping you enjoy these artists and don’t feel too sad in general. Have a better week than me eh?

Enough of that, here’s some social media stuff. The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and an account over on Twitter as well. Please consider following me over on those pages, it really helps. If you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page. Cheers for everything!

Hello there inmates!

Here’s hoping that you’re all having a great day in quarantine. I’ve most certainly been enjoying the fantastic weather here in the UK the last couple weeks. I’ve not been out as much as I would have liked, but there you go! It is still seeming like a rather scary time out there. Very rare to hear good news right now, which is a pity. Too many people are losing loved ones. Deaths that many of which could perhaps have been avoided. But I am still fairly confident that we shall get through this virus business and return to regular (or not) life.

So, it’s time for another edition of the Harlequins writing music! We’ve finally come to part 30! The big number thirty! I’ve been really humbled by the response to these posts, especially since I find them really quite enjoyable to make. I’m going to do something slightly different for this week’s edition. I’ve only done this once before so far. I’m going to focus on a single musical artist that I truly adore and that regularly inspires me.

This time, the artist i’ve chosen is the Poets Of The Fall. This is an absolutely fabulous rock band from Finland. Pretty easy to listen to, with deeply emotive lyrics and a staggeringly high variety of styles in their songs. Their lyrics tend to be highly surreal and metaphorical. Also, they’re delivered by the tremendous vocals of Marko Saaresto! Quite possibly my favourite vocalist out there right now. I’m going to share with you five of my favourite songs by this energising band.

Poets Of The Fall – Late Goodbye

Poets Of The Fall – My Dark Disquiet

Poets Of The Fall – Moonlight Kissed

Poets Of The Fall – Daze

So there we have it for another special volume of the Harlequins writing music!

I hope that you give this truly marvellous band a try. Their music is so varied that I feel they will likely have something for everyone. They definitely deserve further exposure! Here’s the link to their website.

Also, I hope you look forward to tomorrow’s poem. It’s making me hungry just thinking about it…

If you like what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over at the Ko-Fi page! Thanks for everything!

Until next week’s edition, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello again inmates!

Well, here it is! As I mentioned before, I’m posting something a little more “musical” and as unsurprising as it may be, it’s a Halloween special of the Harlequins writing music! It’s the time for trick-or-treating, costume parties and generally being freaky. Music can fit all of these things, music can transform fear into terror and unease into panic. Music and Halloween go hand in hand.

I listen to a great many bands, both obscure and popular. As you may know, I try to keep it as varied as i can. With Halloween upon us, I felt that it would be quite apt to post the bands and songs I write with that fit well with Halloween. Crunching metal epics, fancy costumes and spooky electronic jingles can all be found here. I believe I’ve posted a few of these bands before, but I shall try to keep the songs new. You may know some of these bands, you may not know some of them, however I guarantee you won’t be disappointed in these choices. Unless you’re easily freaked out I suppose.

Now, let us delve into the musical minds of freakish artists the world over!

So there we have it for another edition! I included a few more songs than usual, with this being a special occasion and all. Here’s hoping that you’ve enjoyed this edition of the Harlequins writing music, I hope that you check out these artists. And once again, I hope that you all have a very happy Halloween! Now, I’m going to go and cut a pumpkin, or something like that. Haha!

Until next time, have a very crazy day inmates!

Hello once again inmates!

I hadn’t really intended to post this quite so soon, but the piece i had originally planned to post today isn’t quite ready yet. It’s taking a little bit longer to do, i want to get it right by me i suppose. So, I’m going to post another edition of the Harlequins favourite writing music. You may learn of some new bands, you never know!
