We’ve been savagely chased from yesteryear,
Demons of loss and pain at our backs,
Like Jack Russell’s nipping at our heels,
Chunks of us left in the last year,
Physically and emotionally,
Not all survived the rout,

Yet we must look forward,
It’s a mad new world,
Time waits for no man,
The days ahead are in flux,
Waiting to be crystallized by new experience,
New faces and affairs to be held in glass,

But take note,
It is yet unclear if this new year will also maim,
That same glass may be jagged,
But our assault must be sustained,
For time will not tarry,
So we ought face the year like a hopeful sunrise.

Upon my latest walk of life,
On a whim I gawk skyward,
I declare to my internal voices,
Oh to be a cloud,
Able to shift and float and meld and melt,
An airy mote of freedom and playfulness,

My imagination fills with effervescent images,
Effortlessly skirting the earth,
Day and night with my cloud friends,
Rain dances and thundery cheers,
Oh to be a cloud,
Playing kiss chase under sun and moon both,

Oh to be a cloud,
Able to cry in rainstorms,
Whenever one requires,
Aqua to release any pain,
Privately or publicly,
Yet no soul would critique the sky,

Oh to truly be a cloud,
I continue walking these alleys though,
Knowing I shall never be one of them,
Yet I still smile to myself,
Things are looking up,
And I can always look skyward to my ethereal friends.

Today is the day,
Onwards to greater pastures,
The restraints are broken,
Harlequin unleashed,
A cocoon is split open,
A goliath of a moth,
Flying off to a new home,
Harlequin anew,

My grin shall no longer be painted,
My hat no longer worn low,
My dance no more sedated,
Harlequin run riot,
The future begins now,
A vivid lease of life,
The rest of time,
Begins with a single footfall,

Harlequin onwards.
