Hello there inmates!

I hope you’re all having a sublime day and an even nicer week! I’m doing quite well, aside from some pretty nasty sunburns. You may have seen a snippet of those burns in my poem ‘Scorcher’. Yes, it was rather painful though it is beginning to subside now. I was a bit ham-handed with the sun lotion and missed far too much, as well as forgetting to reapply it as the day went on. It’s been an exceedingly hot one here in the UK, particularly here in the south. It’s not really been concentration weather, but I have persevered to bring you lovely people my usual array of work. I hope that it has been up to a respectable standard this week.

So, its the time for the Harlequins writing music isn’t it? Well, I’ve got another good one for you lot this week. I shared the theme on my social media earlier on today. Did anybody guess it? I used a rather famous painting as the clue today.

Well the theme for todays music is the emotion of fear. Oh yes, fear. Unease, terror, anxiety. It can be fear manifesting in a multitude of ways that artists use as an ingredient in their song-writing. It could be tension of a particular kind of object or thing. Or perhaps it’s anxiety at socialising or just generally being around people. Maybe fear of the dark is an inspiration. There could simply be an arrangement in a song that instils fear in the listener, rather than representing the fear felt by the creator. It’s one of the most primal and powerful forces in the human (and animal) brain, so it stands to reason it can be not only a powerful motivator, but also a powerful inspirer. So, let’s see what I came up with this week eh? Could I scare the socks of your feet? Will I be able to raise your heartrate and make your hands clammy? I don’t know, but I’m going to show you some awesome music anyway.

So, join me as we delve into the musical minds of terrifying artists the world over!

And there we have it folks! How about that? Did these songs scream fear to you? Did they even scare you with their lyrics? Well, it was worth a try I suppose. I would suggest checking out all of these artists regardless, they’re all deserving of love. Do it for me eh?

Hello there inmates!

I hope you’re all having a wonderful day! Oh, and a wonderful week of course. Mine has been quite nice to be honest. I’ve been able to spend plenty of time with Tash which is always a gift. I’ve been more than happy with my recent scribblings. I have been thinking I want to head back in to my more horror-esque works. I’ve leaned a bit too far from that favourite genre of mine in my opinion. What do you guys think?

So, I’m going to be showing all of you some new music today. You’re surely aware of my ways by now! Haha! I have a theme for my musical choices today and it’s one I feel like I have done in the non-too-distant past. I could be imagining it, but we’ll see. Maybe one you lot can let me know.

Todays musical theme is history! Oh yes, anyone who has read my work in the past knows that I have a soft spot for history, particularly when it comes to military history. History is an excellent subject for musical expression, both in subject matter and in stylistic methods. They sometimes use instruments you hear less often, such as instruments used in marching bands and the like. Orchestral stylings are also often used in artists work when imagining historical scenarios. I’m going to try and get a variety of artists as always, it can be difficult at times though!

So, join me as we delve into the musical minds of nostalgic artists the world over!

Sabaton – Fields Of Verdun

2Cellos – Thunderstruck

Iron Maiden – Run To The Hills

Neil Young – Cortez The Killer

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark – Enola Gay

And there we have it!

I had to include a Sabaton song in there, I just had to! So, I hope that you enjoy all of my choices this week and if you’re so inclined, go and give these artists some love. They all deserve it in my opinion. Let me know what you think of this weeks choices and maybe suggest a theme for next weeks writing music? That would be cool!

How about some Harlequin social media nonsense? The asylum has a page over on Facebook, and account on Instagram and an account on Twitter as well. Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page. Thank you for everything!

Good day inmates!

I hope you’re having a great day and excellent week so far. It’s been an alright one, with plenty of stuff going on. Plenty of nice weather as well (until today ironically). I got my hair cut yesterday after way too long. I look at least vaguely human now. I’ve also been quite happy with the poems so far this week. Though I would say they have been a bit more on the introspective side, particularly looking at our societies. So yes, all in all, a pretty decent week. I struggle to think of any complaints to be honest. That may be a first…

So, its the time of the week for the Harlequins writing music! I still find myself being amazed that I’ve actually kept this up now for 81 parts. It’s simply mind-blowing. I’m not stopping now either! As usual, I had a clue for todays theme posted on my social media a few hours ago. Did anybody get it?

Well, the theme for todays music choices is the paranormal. Ghosts in particular of course. People have written numerous songs over the years about being haunted, ghost stories and all manner of hereafter-related shenanigans. The afterlife is a total mystery to all of us, whether you are religious or not. We don’t know for sure what happens. So, peoples ideas and beliefs have inspired music about the subject. It lends itself well to musical interpretation. Do we remain here after our demise? Do we go elsewhere? Are there beings around us that we can’t see? I think the idea of musical ghost stories is awesome and it does tie into my love of horror quite a lot too.

So, lets give this a go eh? Join me as we delve into the musical minds of spectral artists the world over!

King Diamond – The Invisible Guests

VoicePlay – Grim Grinning Ghosts

Avenged Sevenfold – Afterlife
https://avengedsevenfold.com/

Iron Maiden – The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg
https://www.ironmaiden.com/

Jen Titus – O’ Death
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2315616/

And there we have it for another edition! How was that? Quite a variety of incarnations of the paranormal or afterlife there don’t you think? There were quite a few others that I could have chosen, but I must confess this may have been the hardest theme I’ve chosen so far. So many songs use the name “Ghost” or Ghosts” but aren’t talking about the paranormal or anything even resembling ectoplasm. For shame I say! Anyways, I hope you enjoyed my choices this week and catch me back here again next week for another shot of musical “goodness”.

I ought to put some social media spiel here hadn’t I? The asylum has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and a presence on Twitter too. Please go over and like/follow me on those pages to keep tabs on my stuff! Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page. Cheers for everything!

Until next time, have a very crazy day inmates!

Good day inmates!

Here’s hoping that you are all having a explicitly marvellous day or night, wherever you are. Well, it’s hard to believe that another year is coming to a close. Christmas is nigh once more. 2017 seems to have gone remarkably fast! It’s been a perplexing year, with many good and bad things happening in tandem. Real life always seems to get in the way eh? I know the blog has been a touch on the quiet side, but I’d like to think that it’s coming back to life a bit now. On that note, I hope you’ve all been enjoying my newest poems.

So, it’s time for another edition of the Harlequins writing music. This is the 21st edition of this now, that’s pretty damn crazy. Perhaps crazier than me! As always, I’m finding new musical artists who bring new images, sounds and colours to my mindscape. Music is the ultimate inspirational factor in life, in my opinion. A song can inspire a story of woe or wonder. A song can provoke emotions of all shades. A song can galvanize ones writing, acting as a ‘nudge out of the door’ so to speak. It truly is a marvellous thing!

Once again, join me as I delve into the musical minds of inimitable artists the world over!

Illenium – Sleepwalker

ZZ Top – Sharp Dressed Man

Korn – Hater

Iron Maiden – The Trooper

Marshmello – Alone

So there we have it for yet another volume of the Harlequins writing music! I hope that you fellow inmates of the world take a look at these artists, they’re all pretty great! As for my next writing music post, I’m going to try something a little bit different. I have two separate ideas for that, so we’ll see how it goes. Anyways, that’s enough rambling from this tired old Harlequin!

Until next time, have a very crazy day inmates!
