We as a race are a broth,
A primordial soup of sorts,
Despite the delectable taste,
It’s an uneven brew,
Unequal in its very composition,
Poverty and fracking reflected in its surface,

The ingredients are indeed all present,
The boiled water of first breathes,
Chicken stock and upbringings,
The ever reliable starches of the working class,
Spices from every corner of the Earth,
Taken and gathered,
Governing herbs to hold it together,
Theoretically,
Chopped vegetable and bankers tax cuts,

Inequality is a salt,
An unfortunate seasoning,
In this broth of a nation,
In this broth of a world,
The majority blend delectably,
The scum invariably rises to the top.

Humans are made of all sorts,
A host of exotic ingredients,
Sugar spice and some things not so nice,
Herbs and poisons,
Garlic and cyanide,
Ore and gemstones,
Don’t forget the dead flesh,

The recipe isn’t always followed,
Or perhaps one doesn’t exist,
No human is a carbon copy,
The ingredients act in flux,
The outcome always a coin toss,
Sometimes an angel emerges from the hearth,
Other times a devil.

The kitchen is a workshop of a different kind,
With its own arsenal of craftsmen’s tools,
Knife and stove,
Whisk and cutting board,
It’s a form of alchemy,
Culinary magic,
If cast by a maestro,
An ambrosia made at home,
Via a process in artful motion,
The scents play a symphony in the air,
Following a conductor of a culinary edge,
From the humble ingredients,
Bland and squatting in the pantry,
To dishes worthy of an empress,
Regal and flawless in execution,
Euphoria for ones tongue.
