Hello there inmates!

It’s that day of the week again! You know, the one that comes after tuesday? Wednesday, you sillies! That’s always a fun day isn’t it? Well, apart from that whole “work week” thing. Have you all been doing alright? I certainly hope so! It’s been decent here as well, I’ve got to spend a lot of time with Tash so far. She’s been looking after me a fair bit! Hehe! It’s really nice to cuddle, did you guys know that? Nobody told me! I’m sorry yet again that my responses to comments have been really slow this week. It’s just genuinely been one of those weeks that gets on top of my brain is all. I will catch up, I promise!

So, it’s the day of the Harlequins writing music! I posted my clue for the theme an teeny bit late today, but did anybody see it and guess it right? Well, it was map of a certain part of the world. It’s a place I’d like to visit one day, though I doubt it’ll ever happen. Well, let me tell you the answer. The musical theme for todays post is the Caribbean. Yes indeed! That array of magical islands in the sun. Did you know there are 16 different countries in the Caribbean? From Jamaica to Barbados, from Cuba to Saint Lucia. There is an enormous array of cultural identities. The myriad islands were “colonised” by many European countries, so linguistically the Caribbean is a hodgepodge of English, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch, among quite a few others (including languages spoken by natives). The domestic cultures of the islands mixed with European as well as African beats has created one of the most diverse cultural and musical parts of the world. Oh yes, it’s not all Reggae you know! I’m not going to prolong this random essay any longer you know. Let’s have some fantastical music from the marvellous islands of the Caribbean.

Please join me as we delve into the musical minds of Caribbean artists the…. well, world over!

Bob Marley – Buffalo Soldier

Cuba L.A. – Guantanamera

Rihanna – Man Down

Inner Circle – Sweat (A La La Long)

Angelique Klooster – Mi Orashon

And there we have it once again! You just know I had to include Bob Marley, it’s the law! The islands of the Caribbean have these and much more to offer in their music. I couldn’t possibly include artists from each and every island, as wonderful as that would be. I hope that you guys enjoy the choices I’ve made here this week, and go and show your love to each of these artists. They all deserve it! Have any of you been to the Caribbean? What was it like? I’d really like to know.

Ahh yes, before I forget, social media stuff. The asylum here has a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and an account over on Twitter. I share random stuff over on those sites every now and then and I also share clues to my poems a few hours before time. Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page! Thanks for everything!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

We lost a man today,
I did not know him,
But i’ve heard his story oftentimes,
Police stops and biased chains,
Run down underdogs of colour,
Undeserving of vitriol,

Despite a merciless knee,
From an agent of racist divide,
He has risen,
To become more than himself,
An icon,
A catalyst,

Despite his past,
He has become a black knight,
Perhaps a ronin,
Not born to silver spoons and equality,
I’ve heard his story oftentimes,
He is every brother and sister beaten by blue hands,

Through his sacrifice,
To a cruel unfair world,
Equality has gained a new warrior,
There have been hosts before him,
Learn their names and stories,

Rest in peace now,
You face and life shall shine on,
All lives may indeed matter,
But some need our assistance,
Our vigil,
So let us preach black lives matter.
