Hello there inmates!

So February marches onwards and so must we! It’s been a busy week, I must admit. How is the month treating you so far? Very well I hope, not letting the winter get you down. It tends to do that to me unfortunately, I’ve had a few bouts of melancholy this week. It’s nothing substantial, it’s simply the seasonal blues you know? Hopefully all of you out there in interweb land aren’t suffering the same.

But that’s not what you’re here for is it? You’re here for good times! Musical good times at that. The Harlequins writing music shall hopefully provide. Did you see my clue for todays theme earlier? It was a fairly obvious one, at least I thought so. You guys really need to check the social media sites out.

Todays musical theme is centred around a specific artist. That artist is the one and only Elton John! Suggested by one of you lovely inmates out there a couple weeks ago! I think it’s fair to say that almost everybody knows this eclectic gentleman. He’s something of a household name, as they say. The contributions of Elton John to the landscape of music are rather undeniable, spanning about 60 years. I actually took a look today at all of the awards he’s received and been nominated for. It’s rather insane, to be honest. I’m particularly a fan of his piano work, though he is obviously very well known for his more poppy and glam rock stuff. I’m hoping to share some amount of variety in his work today. Five songs from a true artist of over six decades is hardly going to be truly representative, but it’s still something of a tribute. Let’s dance eh?

Join me as we delve into the musical mind of the glamourous Sir Elton John.

Elton John – Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)

Elton John – Your Song

Elton John – I’m Still Standing

Elton John – Pinball Wizard

Elton John – I Want Love

And there we have it! Had to have a bit of RDJ in that last video eh? Big fan! So there’s some really good Elton John tunes. I know that he has done some collaborative works with artists like Nicki Minaj and Dua Lipa recently, but I’m not a great fan I’ll be honest. Oh and before I forget, here’s the link to Elton John website. I know he’s not some obscure artist or anything, but it’s tradition ok?! Haha!

Now, how about some social media links for someone who is obscure. Me! The asylum does in fact have a page over on Facebook, an account on Instagram and last but not least, a page over on Twitter as well. Also, if you enjoy what I do here at the asylum, please consider supporting me over on the Ko-Fi page as well! Thanks for everything!

Until next week, have a very crazy day inmates!

Took lessons for 5 years. I can’t play by ear to save my life, lol. But I read music and manage alright for personal purposes. Not quitting my day job. 😂

      • Osharlequin says:

Haha! Well that’s certainly more skill than I have. More of a hobby for you I take it?

Yes! I have played for church, for nursing home programs, and I am active in a fraternal group that keeps me busy tickling the ivories for their meetings. I especially enjoy playing pieces from the 40’s and 50’s—I have my grandmother’s sheet music.

      • Osharlequin says:

That’s still quite an impressive body of work/experience I’d say. The 40s and 50s eh?
